Does anyones else get severe stomach cramps with margarita mix? Every time I try to drink a frozen marguarita out at a Mexican restaurant, (not any in particular), I get the WORST stomach pains. Like someone kicked me in the stomach. It brings tears to my eyes and I get really hot and clammy. This only happens with marguarita mix, i.e. strawberry, raspberry..any fruit flavors. Note, I don't drink a lot and this will happen with the initial drink and I have to stop. Any idea what causes this pain? Surely, this happens to other people.

It is probably the sweet and sour mix that goes in with it, fruit or no fruit. If you have the same reaction with a dacurri,(sp), then that is probably what it is. Those drinks are on major overload with sugar. Also, some people have an allergic reaction to tequilla. Try sipping it from a shot glass. If it is not the tequilla, it is the sweet and sour.

It sounds like a combination of the too sugary fruit syrup they use and inexpensive tequila. I would suggest ordering a margarita on the rocks with a top shelf anejo or reposado (the time in oak makes them richer and smoother) tequila, grand marnier or a quality triple sec and fresh lime.

Sounds like you're having an allergic reaction to one of the ingrediants. I get this reaction with wheat, but people get it from all sorts of foods.

I would suggest another type of drink and keep notes if it does the same thing and what was in it. That will help you figure out better what is causing this reaction.

it could be really cheap tequila but chances are its citric acids in the margarita mix. orange mix from bars (they use it instead of orange juice in vodka and oj, gin and juice, etc) does the same thing to my roommate.

do yourself a favor and make real drinks at home -- you get more alcohol and none of that nasty fake tasting mix stuff.

Nope...just ungodly heartburn . There is a lot of citric acid in the margarita mix. Maybe your system can't handle it?
