section off your hair into 1 inch to 2 inch sections. curl each with an average size curling iron on about medium heat. switch the direction you curl the hair for each section ( one curled away from the face, one towards). this allows the curls to look more natural.

when finished, spritz lightly or use a style holding paste to hold the shape. if you curls are more definded than you wish, just mess it up a little or lightly comb over areas. it all depends on you hair type, length, and thickness but it should work. good luck.

curling it with a curling iron works for me. just dont use hairspray or anything and it'll stay loose.
