Personally I think the cops should loose their jobs or at least have to make a public apology to victim and student body. They have to get some kind of public ridicule for their actions.

They even threatened other students: a girl asked to see the officers badge and the police responed saying "do you want to be tazed too"

I don't see any justification for this, think if it happen to you. What happen to just dragging a guy out, there certainly were enough officers

they were campus cops
they tazed him repeatedly even after being cuffed.
They asked him to stand but negated the point that he was just imobilized by electricity.....

They tazed him in front of a lot of students.

The victim was not violent just a jerk.

Every UCLA alumnus should call the UCLA President's office (310-825-4321) and let Pres. Robert C. Dynes and Chancellor Norman Abrams know that you will withhold all contributions until the police officers are fired.

A university is usually far more tolerant and respectful of students' rights, and far more restrictive on police brutality, than outside the university gates. In Mexico, police are not even allowed inside a university gates unless specifically invited in by the Chancellor. Having worked in universities for the past 20 years, I can safely say the behavior of the UCLA PD as exhivited in the 6-minute video (not 10 seconds) is inexcusable. They could have dragged the guy out, let him scream all he wants. If he resisted phsycially, they could have handcuffed him -- for 200 years our police did not need tasers or pepper spray to handcuff people. (Maybe he was already handcuffed when they Tasered him, which is even less excusable.)

There is a big difference between being tased once (often by a low-voltage) in a test situation and having it done to you multiple times in a row in a hostile situation. There have been 73 deaths associated with tasers between 1999 and 2004. Even police officers in five states have sued Taser International claiming they "suffered serious injuries after being shocked with the device during training classes." http://orlando.injuryboard.com/defective-products/an-alternative-to-the-defective-and-deadly-taser.php

Thanks for posting this. What is horrible is when they keep tazering him for not standing up. I live in NZ, where our police have just got tazers, and the public outcry is quite high. On the news they had a policeman volunteering to be tazered. You could tell he was trying to be all staunch about it, but as soon as they did it he screamed, and fell right over, almost paralysed. That guy COULDN'T get up, because he'd been tazered, so tazering him again and again because of it was just cruel and above all STUPID. I think that no policeman here should be allowed to carry a tazer without having experienced it. Or at all, really, but at least then they'd know what they were doing. It's shocking how easy it is for civil liberties to be rescinded in a state of panic and once they're gone it's so hard to take them back. "Here's your Patriots Act" indeed. Thank you.

I think they did a fine job and should be commended for their restraint. They were confronted with a resisting subject and a hostile crowd. In my viewing of the video the only threat
I'll address as many of your "facts" as I can....
The use of a taser is considered physical force...of the same level as "dragging someone out" as you said .
Their being "campus cops" has no bearing on anything,if they are authorized to carry tasers they should use them when appropriate.
They repeatedly zapped him because he would not comply..this is perfectly appropriate use.
Tasing renders the subject incapable only for the period being tased, they regain ALL control immediately afterward so he was not immobilized in anyway and fully capable of walking if he wanted to.
Why can't a subject be teased in front of people?that comment makes no sense whatsoever.
Again , a taser is appropriate force for any resistance - active or passive.
Paying tuition does not excuse anyone from obeying the rules nor grant them special priviledges.

Don't ever believe any video unless you see the whole thing, and then be weary. Especially a video put on tv news. Unless you were there and were trying to subdue this guy, don't even think of being the judge and jury. You have probably never been in a situation like that, have you?

I think if the video I saw actually showed the student being tased and not just the audio of the ruckus caused by the incident, I might have an opinion.

I couldn't believe it when I saw it! Judging on the fact that there was limited access to the entire event, it seemed that the officers were too aggressive/abusive! I was absolutely disgusted by their actions. There was absolutely no threatening action on the student's part. Once again, we didn't get an opportunity to see what may have precipitated their actions, however, nobody deserves to be tazered that many times when physical restraint could have been used to escort the student out of the building.

The little fool deserved it.That's what's wrong with this country.Too many young pukes talking trash and thinking they can get away with it.The students parents should have taught that fool some basic rules.
