Try joining a club that you have interest in. For example, if you like hiking, look up craigs list or outdoors sports that have co ops.
The key to overcoming this is to make new friends and that is not ggoing to happen by sitting here. You need to get out there and try to make new friends.
Also, keep in mind that ANYONE would feel this way in your shoes. This is a normal thing called being human. Time will heal this.
Remind your self of why you are there and all the cool things you like about your new home town.

I know how you feel...I use to work overseas and it does get very depressing. What I did was, I joined a gym and started to socialize with the staff and with the members. People love to hear where you are from and why you are there.

get to know people who are around you but that you haven't talked to yet. chat it up with co-workers, go to a club, or a mall and just be yourself. It takes time to get into a sort of grove and meet new people but hang in there.
