.1. Can you provide a letter from your vet stating your qualities as an owner.
2. Can you afford to care for the dog?
3. Do you have experience caring for a dog?
a. If not will you be taking the dog and yourself to obedience training?
4. Will you be keeping the dog inside as a family pet?
5. Do you intend to breed the animal?
6. Do you understand we are selling this puppy as a pet and do not guarantee it breeding potential?
7. Will you sign an agreement to return the dog to me If for any reason you decide not to keep it? (agree on return cost minus fees )
8. Are there small children in your household?
9. Do you have any other pets in your household?
10. Will the dog spend more than 8 hours per day alone?
These are the questions I ask, I have in the past had people give me the right answers but, I still didnt give them the dog. I just had bad feelings about them. I was better to have them mad at me than worry about the pup.

Ask for references, if they haven't had a dog before, then personal references will do. Instruct them that they will be required to have the dog spayed or neutered, and that you will have them sign a contract to that effect before they can take the pup home (and then actually do it) - people who want a puppy right now no matter what, and are unwilling to wait are not usually the best choice for you. Ask them simple questions about Bostons to see if they have done any research. Ask them if they have a vet in their area that is willing to see the puppy within 24 hours of bringing it home to make sure it is healthy. Ask what they will do with the dog if they move, if someone develops allergies, if they lose their job etc..... a dog is forever, right!?
Ask them if they will agree to have you check their home over before they are allowed to purchase the puppy. Tell them that your contract includes the fact that if they must rehome the puppy at any time in its life, that it must come back to YOU (and then actually put this in your contract).

You don't have time now - but you should draw up a contract, most good breeders do.

I had to provide references for my pup - one from my vet, the other was my trainer. (Ask if he's ever done any training - if that person recommends him - get that reference too)

What type of exercise do you plan to give it? What is your daily schedule like?
What type of house do you live in - if apartment - is this size dog allowed.
Do you plan on moving - what will you do with the dog
those are a few
Oh - and this one helps - charge a little more now - and offer partial refund once proof of spay / neuter is done!!!

Ask them what they will do when they come home and the puppy has chewed up there things. The look on their face will tell you what you want to know. Plus it will give them something to think about to be sure they are ready for a puppy. Also check with the local shelters and make sure they are not on a do not adopt list. There is such a thing and those people are on there for a reason.

Ask how many dogs they hae had in the past and what happend to them.
Ask for a vet reference and then follow it up with a call to the vet to see if the person kept the dog on heartworm preventative and kept up with shots and medical care.
These are two of the things our rescues asks for when we place a dog.

The other question to ask is:

Does he have any questions?

What he asks you may help you to decide on his suitability - hopefully he will be quizzing you just as much as you are quizzing him ... he should be hoping to find out that you are a responsible breeder who cares about the pups that you've raised & that you've been doing your best with them ... just as much as you're hoping to find out that he will be a loving, life-time, caring owner for one of your babies.

It doesn't really bode well if it sounds like he is willing to buy a pup from just anyone ... it would make me a bit suspicious of why he wanted my 'baby'.

Good luck!

1. I WOULD ASK IF THEY HAVE EVER HAD A DOG BEFORE
2. ASK HOW BIG THEIR YARD IS AND IF IT FENCED IN.
3.I WOULD ASK THEM WHAT THEIR PLANS FOR THE DOG IS.
4. I WOULD ASK IF THEY HAVE EVER HAD A PET DIE BECAUSE OF A SICKNESS THAT COULD HAVE BEEN PREVENTED.
5. I WOULD ASK THEM IF THEY HAVE ANOTHER DOG.IF THEY HAVE ANOTHER DOG , I WOULD INSIST THE TWO DOGS MEET BEFORE A DECISSION IS MADE.
6.ASK IF THEY HAVE KIDS. SOME KIDS CAN BE TOO ROUGH.

GOOD LUCK. HOPE THIS HELPS

Find out if this is their first puppy, ask if they have questions, ask a high price, people who will pay a high price for a puppy usually won't balk at paying the other costs associated with it, just go with your gut, you'll know if they're "dog" people

Do you really like dogs? By asking this question you will know whether they will be good owners or not. The key is to watch their facial expression keenly.

1.) Do you eat dogs or do science experiments on them?
2.) Will you be paying by cash?
