Probably not. If you mix vinegar and water into a spray bottle and spray it on the wall paper enough to get it moist, the wall paper will peel right off with hardly any effort. Then you don't take a chance at wasting the paint just to have to start back at square one. Trust me. We used this technique in my kitchen when I moved in my house. It is also very cost efficient. Just a few dollars.

This method has been done for many years and still is. They even sell the paper to put on the walls to paint. Depending on the wallpaper (paper or vinyl), you should use some type of primer appropriate for the paper. You want to make sure that the paper on the wall is securely fastened. Many overlay jobs result in eventual early maintenance due to the underneath ageing and peeling. You can prep the seams with a filler to eliminate lines and prime those preps before painting. Hardware stores should be able to pick out the correct type of primer and filler. Primer will help eliminate the paper from obsorbing ecess paint and give an even color tone. I never ever suggest overlays of any type even though it is the easiest way at first. I hope it does not backfire on you by the paper peeling soon after.

I lost a deposit over this once. haha, but painting over wallpaper does work well, since isn't wallpaper just image printed paper to begin with? Also, if you can see seems in wallpaper when it is not painted, and you can see them after its painted as well, whats the problem?? paint them with semi gloss, some wall-paper will bubble when it is painted, but will lay back down as it dries and the moisture dries out. use a stencil of some cool design or something randomly on the walls, it adds a nice hand painted wallpaper affect.

My wife painted over all the wall paper in our older house. We did however use a sealer first to make sure the ink didn't bleed back out. The only problem we had was some times the paint would dampen the edges and seam and some of them started to come up but we just glued them back down. It looks fine to us but it all depends on how fussy you want to be about it :)

You could, but I wouldn't. If you go to the effort of taking the wallpaper off, then you never have the worry of it peeling or trying to roll up or anything seeping through. Good luck and I recommend using a semi gloss, not flat finish paint. From living on military bases for years now, flat paint is never a good idea, must be less money but none the less, never a good idea, especially with children that literally like to climb the walls :)

yes...you can paint over wall paper and make it look great. But...there are a few things that you need to do....first, make sure the paper is tight on the wall and no seams are lifting ....if they are forget it...second, make sure that you fill any holes from pictures etc and that there is no frayed paper around the area.....also don't use a really dark paint as any imperfections will be more noticable.....good luck....

If the paper is good and tightly adhered to the wall, you can prime it with a sealer like KILZ and then paint over it. If it is a strip able paper, you are better off to peel it off and then prime and paint.

I'd sand it to provide extra 'tooth', then start with a sealer/primer coat or two, then the finish coat of paint. Use a paint with a higher solids content. These cost more, but they go on thicker, so in the end cost less.

I have done it before. As long as the paper is on good and no parts torn off . Also, you can paint over paneling.

you can but if this is inside your own home why would you want to do that. remove the wallpaper then paint walls will look better and easier to clean if you use egg shell-or-satin finish. don't use flat finish.
