Acknowledge that he did a stupid request and to ask for something more humble, such as to do what the Lord wants or how to help others out, or to help himself get through a rough time, etc. Praying to become rich is basically a selfish prayer. I don't believe it's going to happen.

first he/she should make sure you are a true beliver and understand what God wants from you -
the bible and God do not say you cannot be rich, but it is mstly referred to as spiritual richness
so just praying to become rich without having the right christian attitude about wanting to become rich to better be able to share and help is not going to work ...
so examine yourself and pray instead to God to help you to do what is right

The truth is they call it the golden rule for a reason. You must do unto others as you would have them do unto you.
Think about it...service for instance. If you give good service, people will come back over and over and thus you are the benefactor.

if the lord wants you to be rich it will fall in your place, if praying for it you may want to be charitable,kind and do the best you can to love your neighbor as yourself and love god as yourself prior to and after the prayer.
