Marketing unfortunately

So many people are willing to try Guinness, yet give them a pint of O'Hanlons Port Stout, or similar, and theu won't touch it.

EDIT
TPotter - How can you say Guinness hasn't changed.
It owes it's creamy head because it used to be poured from 2 barrels, one that had finished fermenting the other that was still only partially fermented.
That's now done by using a mixed gas propellant when pouring ................. REALLY TRADITIONAL

I would disagree about the advertising aand yes there are other good dark beers....but....guiness is really distinct...its a very creamy smooth dark beer with extremely little carbonation...also the head is distinct to...I love guiness..and I love Dark beer...Just my opinion though....oh yeah...its old and has changed very little from how it was originally brewed

It's probably not the taste, but just how much advertising they do. The more people see an Ad, the better they think a product is going to be. If it's seen more, people think it is a popular product.

Money for Advertising, They don't care If you like their Product, If you buy it they'll Get Rich, personally I like Guinness the name the Color and the Taste, its better then Beer.

I think it's the name and advertising. Lots of ppl think dark beer or ale and an Irish name MUST be good, after all,Irish are stereotypically quite the drinkers,right?(advertising-hmmm). when someone says pizza, is Italian pizza better than, say, American pizza---or, should it be? Not necessarily, says I.

they use nitrogen as a propellant, it is an inert gas that gives less fizz and more body. besides that, the ingredients are ok, they use a northern brewer hop, which is german, it works well for stouts.

It's an acquired taste. You don't have to like it.
