You need to tell her as much about you as she tells you about her. Keep it about 50:50. If she asks you a question, you might want to ask a similar one back.

Don't be afraid to let her know things about you. How can you become friends if she doesn't know anything about you? Just avoid anything negative or contraversial that would spoil the positive mood. Take it slow, don't tell her your whole life story on your first meeting.

Your questions don't have to be directly about yourselves, such as job or where you're from, etc, just tastes and interests. For example, if she says 'What did you think of the new james bond movie?', tell her, then say 'Did you like it?', 'What do you like about it?'.

Ask questions that open up the conversation, such as 'How did you get into hairdressing?' (or whatever) and questions that invite her to go into a long story, such as 'Did you do anything nice this summer?'. Keep it going with follow-up questions.

Search for articles or yahoo questions on small-talk. The book on small-talk below is very good. When you've broken the ice and got to know a bit about each other, move it on by flirting (see link).

you get what you give.. if you ask questions you seem interested in getting to know her better. most women like men that listen...then there is more of a possibility that she could become interested in you... this way you kind find out if she is self-centered or worth being interested in in the first place.

asking questions of a women is getting her to open up her personal,private,inner-most thoughts. which sometimes makes her vunerable to men/women who have bad intentions. You must be equal and open up too her and make her feel comfortable and promote a feeling of trust... the old saying ..you show me yours and I will show you mine,is always the best approach if you are interested in more than sex.

Most women don't mind talking about themselves, as long as your questions don't make you sound like a stalker or something.

It'll allow her to feel comfortable talking to you. We often equate that with interest.
