no. they require food, water, and a cage. the cage needs to be cleaned alot. but the floor around the cage needs to be cleaned every time you walk past the cage. The bird also needs to be taken out of the cage and played with daily for a few hours. while you are watching tv is fine if time is at a premium. Also they will love a bath every few days and every day in summer. my old one just passed away 2 years ago.(bird) she was 17. I now have an 8 yr. old (molly).

They are easy to take care of. You feed and water them and clean their cage. If you handle them alot they will get used to you and set on your shoulder or hand. Get their wings clipped so that they can't fly really well. Our dog and cockatiel were best friends.

The Tiel is a very remarkable bird, the males are more prone to talk than the females, they are easy to care for, but always remember, once your relationship begins you must keep that relationship going, always spend time with your friend.

My mom and our family raise Cockatiels have been for 15 years now. They are friendly birds if you treat them well and love them to death.
They are able to learn to whistle and talk. I use to hold a small coversation with my little birdie! It was such a riot! Very funny. If you get a baby handle them alot and rub there heads and yallow patches...they love to be scratched

They are sweet and loving but they crap EVERYWHERE. It is a smart bird. My grandma had one and she taught it a routine on closing the blinds. It was retarted but they are smart. And the love to talk to you. The males actually squack about something. The females squack just because they can. Most of them don't like towels over their cage for nighttime either. Hope this helps! Good luck with the new bird!!!
