They are made from corn meal and fried in a skillet. Old recipe from Kentucky. If that helps.

Hi Confused,

My sister-in-law makes this using Grits follow directions on box,
then let them sit,
form into patties then fry in bacon grease then use flour or corn starch to thicken for (gravy),
remove patties & then make the gravy,
put patties back in & simmer,
I don't recall her ever using anything except grits she was from South Carolina. Good luck & have a good day!

Now why would you want lumps in your gravy?

(keep'em if you must. I sometimes resort to a blender)
