I am just wondering if anyone else has frustrations with their moms bieng critical. My boyfriend is the most wonderful guy I ever knew. He's always kind to me. This is important in a real relationship. One would think that the parents would be happy with that.

What my parents think is not my basis of my relationship. I have taken time to know my boyfriend.

Every parent is always critical, they don't want this guy to take you away from them.

As a person coming from both sides of that fence I can tell you this. I was the daughter, and now I am the parent. When I was 13 I didn't like the rules at home, was crazy about my boyfriend, got pregnant and married all in the same year. The one thing I didn't realize was my Mom Loved me desperately. I couldn't understand why she didn't like him at all. She didn't know how to talk to me nor did I know how to talk to her. A parent takes a defensive stance when they are trying to protect their son or daughter. The only thing she is doing is trying to protect you from harm. She doesn't like him because she is afraid he will hurt you. Looking back my Mom did the same thing. It turns out my Mother was right on the money. In your boyfriends defense I can say that people have to make their own life, mistakes and decisions. It is, in the end totally up to you. Just a word of wisdom for you to remember is this. If you truly needed someone in an emergency, if you found out you had an incurable disease, if you were burned beyond recognition and survived, who would you call? Talk to your Mother. If you can't learn how. If she can't tell her why.

Let's go to the tote board (all the guys mentioned here were merely intense crushes that I told my mom about):

Guy #1: Smart, nice, semi-cute. Rejected for not being Jewish and being too wrapped up in himself.
Guy #2: Cute, sweet, talented, Jewish. Rejected for not being particularly bright and having long hair.
Guy #3 (the current): Cute, confident, nice enough. Rejected for not being Jewish and being rather arrogant.

Perhaps your parents are looking more at his long term financial prospects than at his love for you or his personal appearance..
