i work at a bar that throws their beer bottles away along with the trash, and it bothers me, because at home...i recycle EVERY little SCRAP! Because i believe recyling does save the landscape in the long term.
I notice lots of dump yards as i was taking the train (amtrak) from PA to NY, and i never realize how dirty this planet has become!
Are beer bottles even recycleable?
From what a garbage guy told me...it would have to be rinsed out before you can recycle it, which is why lots of people don't because its inconvenient.
what is your thoughts about this?!

In Canada we have paid a deposit for beer bottles since the 60's. It used to be 5 cents each, but now it's 10 cents each. But we receive this money back when we return the beer bottles, which then go back to the manufacturers, where they are sterilized and reused.

You will never find beer bottles littering the side of Canadian roads because of this. Just think of how much money you could earn every night if you turned those bottles your bar discards, into cash!

Bars DO recycle certain bottles, mosly Bud and Shlitz, because they make a type of bottle"called a Bar Bottle" that is made out of a better quality glass and can take punishment. They are returned to the factory in cases where they are sterilized and re-labeled. You can tell a bar bottle because it is long and heavy, with a frosted ring around the top and bottom of the thick part of the bottle, since this is where they rub together. Some states do not allow bar bottles, and require a one-use container. States like Ma. do allow them, and you will find them in most every bar.

In some states such as NY they are not only recyclable but retunable for a deposit.
If the state recycles glass then the businesses are required to .
Most beer bottles are not washed and refilled any more but the glass is recycled into many products.
PA does not have a deposit on bottles, but does recycle them. MD recycles the glass
They do not havea to be rinsed to recycle. They are all melted and the few drops makes no difference. It may smell, collect ants, but the glass recyclers do not require it.
Some recycled glass products are: gassphalt, new glass, shiny reflection material on street signs,

Recycle. If I did not I would have the environmentalist tree hugging people picketing in front of my house. IN FACT If I could build a house out of recycled beer bottles I could do that within a month, but the problem with that is I like to throw rocks and walk around naked.

When I started my first job it was in a restaurant - and like you, I was shocked to discover that all cans, bottles, everthing went in the bin.. not sure about in all places, but I KNOW these things which I was told to throw in the rubbish could have been recycled! It was so frustrating, I wish more businesses would take some responsibility, but I couldn't change their way of thinking. It'd be "too much fuss" according to my boss... At least they had a pig-bucket to put the food scraps to some use, I suppose.

time and time again i am appauled that people don't recycle. i am like you, i recycle at home all the time. at work i bring home my bottles from my soda, water, etc and put them in my recycle bins. it drives me nuts to see people throw stuff away. it's just plain lazy! bars especially, they can recycle all those bottle and cans easily. contact the city you live/work in and see what options are available for the bar. maybe they can drop the bottles off.

hopefully there are a lot more people out there who recycle like us and worry about the landfills. it is so easy to recycle, there are bins for paper at all the local schools around where i live and the health department gives out large blue bags to recycle with.

people are lazy! recycling should be the law!

I tried to take brown glass beer bottles to a recycle center in our town, they refused them. What a waste.

Some bars do recycle their bottles, my fella worked in a pub where they had to seperate their green and brown glass for recycling, they had seperate bins for them. Its up to government and local authorities to penalise businesses for not recycling. Yes you can recycle them, they just need to be empty.
