A CPR course will include chest compressions, first aid, and resuscitation. I agree that chest compressions have to be learned in a live class, but if you can't get to a class, you should definitely read up on first aid and mouth to mouth, which I think you can do without actually going to a class. You're much more likely to save someone's life by knowing basic first aid than by knowing how to do chest compressions, and you can learn that on the web!

I don't believe that there ARE online courses for CPR, as it is a very hands-on learning technique that is used. Nobody should try to perform CPR if they haven't been through a certified course, because you can end up doing more damage than good if it is done wrong.

Go to the American Red Cross website, and they should provide some information on where you can enroll in a CPR class locally.

American Red Cross and sometimes local hosptials have training sessions. Just need to make a few calls. CPR is a good thing but, you want to do it correctly and you do not do everyone the same way. I.E. you would not want to do a baby the same way you would the average adult or a very fragile elderly person. It is best taught on site with instructors.

As an emergency room RN, I can tell you that you really cannot learn CPR without taking a class that offers hands-on experience with a manequin. Your local hospital can refer you to classes, usually offered by the American Heart Assoc. or the Red Cross.

I don't know about online CPR courses, however there are classes all over the place and they are not that expansive. It's a good thing to know.
