Clyde's (there are several in the area), is VERY good for Thanksgiving day dinner. You will need reservations, but if that is unavailable, there is usually room at the bar, and you can eat at the bar without a reservation. My husband and I did this two years back, and loved it. They give you a little bit of every Thanksgiving dish that you could think of, so they cover all the bases. They also give you white and dark meat, as opposed to just white (which many places do). You don't have to wait in line at a buffet, and all of the food is prepared wonderfully. We also had the pumpkin pie for dessert, which was also fantastic. Highly recommended.

Tabard Inn Restaurant in Dupon Circle!! the food is amazing, very well presented and reasonably affordable unlike other posh places. The environment is very artsy, casual yet with a touch of fine dining. The waitstaff and management is ubber friendly and so easy-going. Their wine list......YUM superb!! It's an easy 3 min walk from Dupont Circle metro or if you decide to drive there's a parking garage right across the street! google the heck out if it an see what you think :)
