my parents would consider a dog. i dont know when, but i am keeping my options open. i need these characteristics-

small, playful
energy
lots of love and need to groom it 1-3 times a week
easy to train

please, i had a dog before and it didnt work out so well. that is because i did not think. i just got it right away. so if you think yorkie is the right dog for me, just reply yes. if u do not think so, say no and why.

Either a Yorkie or a Shih Tzu.

Shih Tzu are small with long hair that will need grooming as they don't shed like most other dogs. They're playful & they love people.

They're also really cute as puppies:

I know that should not be a consideration - especially as Yorkie puppies are just as cute (if not cuter):

Yorkies are terriers & are probably inclined to be a little more fiesty than Shih Tzus. Though they tend to be smaller in size - fi you want a smaller dog - there's more about Yorkie temperment on this site.

Hope this helps you - nearer the time you might also want to see what breeders or shelters are near you & what sort of prices they go for ... it might help you & your parents make a final decision on which to get.

We have a Yorkie and the older he gets, the snappier he gets.. I love him and would never get rid of him because he is my baby. We also have an 8 months old Westie that we got for our daughter and they are a lot of fun. Very playfull and very easy to train. She is already housebroken and knows more tricks than or Yorkie. Now, they do shed a little bit, but it's not bad as long as you keep them brushed out a couple of times a week.

Yorkies are very aggressive and take a lot of work to train. One characteristic about them that is different from other breeds is they prefer to please themselves rather than their masters. I have both Maltese and Yorkies and Malteses arent as smart yet they were easier to train then the Yorkies.

Yes- but, a Yorkie is an indoor dog-would that be a problem?

shih tzus make all of that. they are so easy to train and are really cute and playful. they are pretty low maintence if you keep the hair short . you might also want to consider a "puggle" which is a mix of pug and beagle and i saw one recently TOTALLY CUTE
