I was diagnosed with Bipolar disorder almost a year ago and have tried several medications that have not helped. I am currently not on any meds and I am not doing so good. My mood swings and my manic episodes are completely out of control. I've tried Depakote, Lamictal, Prozac, Serequel, Resperidal, Zyprexa and a few others. Right now the only thing I'm taking is Xanax xr for my anxiety and insomnia which helps tremendously. I just moved to a new town and am not able to see a doctor until my insurance gets switched over and I don't know how long that will take. I feel like I am going crazy here, I need help now not a month from now. What am I supposed to do?

Hi - some of those meds you mentioned can take a while before you get to feel any positive effect from them. I know a few people who take meds for bi-polar, and each one told me about the time factor, and each one needs to take something different.
I don't know if you've ever tried meditation or anything spiritual, but if you are open-minded, you can find a LOT of books that can help you, as well as self-help support groups which can give you some input (you'll need to contact some counseling service or look in the phone book to find them).
If your situation gets really bad, you may need to go to the emergency room at your local hospital (if you're contemplating some drastic action, they HAVE to help you); just take the insurance that you had from where you used to live. That should be enough for a hospital to use until your coverage gets switched over (even smaller hospitals have staff specialists that know how to deal with the money issue).
Good Luck!

Yes you need help now. It is within you . You have tried geographical cure and it should have given you some relief . Depression starts with friends and family. My guess is that you are into a mild psychosis by now and new friends don't relieve the social stresses. Only God can be trusted but all recovered bi polars can help . It is you that is unable now to trust anyone. Nonetheless you are right, the pills don't work and they never were guaranteed to work the way you thought. They give you time in an acute situation. Burning the memory does help a bit. You have had time to calm down. Relax now you are doing okay. But life will never return to the way you felt before the chemicals of stress took over your mind. The brain fights back when you make it learn beliefs that are not true to life. As you develop newer and better expectations for love and sex you will be able to feel happier. Managing your aura is the next challenge as the aura makes all our emotions electrically. Good luck ...Many of us have survived and are trying to turn the forces of society into a more gentle life where people don't do suicide. Be sure there is an insult unto death so get ready for the next time they show you how you never belonged.

Go to your County Mental Health Dept. and tell them the situation you are in. They may work with you on a sliding scale until your insurance comes through. That's what I had to do when I moved like 8 years ago. And I have the really BAD kind of bipolar (mixed episodes), Terrible mood swings, migraines, etc. Sometimes, I wonder,Why do I have to be so sick so much of my life? But then I just thank God for what I have & call a friend or someone I can really talk to that I trust.. There is always someone out there who has it worse than me! Good luck...I know you really need this help and how scared you must feel! Just remember, you are not alone!

Stay on top of the insurance company to make sure things are being done as quickly as possible. Make it clear that it is very important this gets straightened out ASAP. You could try checking with your counties mental health department/ clinic, although usually it takes at least that long to actually start treatment.
In the meantime, you could try joining a borderline email support group, to at least connect with other people who have had similar experiences - people who really "get it". The benefit I have found from my email group is amazing. I don't know how I ever managed without it! (I am bipolar, along with several other psych issues.) There are plenty of other places that have groups like that, but I've always used yahoogroups.com. Do a search for bipolar and you are likely to find quite a few options.

Listen to Joey. He is right on the money. DO NOT STOP TAKING ANY MEDS without a doc seeing you. It takes the right combo and the right therapy to get success. Best of luck to you. Just keep trying, dear. We are with you. :)
