The disciples didn't ask that question a man who wanted healing for his child did.

Mark 9:23 And Jesus said to him, "If you can! All things are possible for one who believes." 24 Immediately the father of the child cried out and said, "I believe; help my unbelief!"

The disciples did however ask Jesus to strengthen their faith.

Luke 17:3 Pay attention to yourselves! If your brother sins, rebuke him, and if he repents, forgive him, 4 and if he sins against you seven times in the day, and turns to you seven times, saying, 'I repent,' you must forgive him." 5 The apostles said to the Lord, "Increase our faith!"

Apparently they were amazed that Jesus would tell them to forgive a person who offended them seven times in one day. Knowing their human limitations they asked for increased faith to obey. After the day of Pentecost when the Holy Spirit was given to men God's provision to overcome the flesh and be good witnesses for Christ was seen.

Acts 1:8 But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you, and you will be my witnesses in Jerusalem and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the end of the earth."

Hi, I could not find these exact words by the disciples but I would hazard to guess that this may well have been the case with some, if you remember that before meeting Jesus they all lived under the law of Moses and regulated by the loads of bye laws that the Pharisees loaded onto them, and the things that Jesus taught would have been the opposite of what they had been used too and may well have had great difficulty in understanding this new doctrine.
when Jesus talked about eating His body and drinking His blood this caused much confusion among the disciples and many left Him, so yes I can well understand your point.

John 20:25 The other disciples therefore said unto him, We have seen the LORD. But he said unto them, Except I shall see in his hands the print of the nails, and put my finger into the print of the nails, and thrust my hand into his side, I will not believe.

John 20:27 Then saith he to Thomas, Reach hither thy finger, and behold my hands; and reach hither thy hand, and thrust it into my side: and be not faithless, but believing.

Thomas was a doubter and needed proof that Jesus was who He said he was.

Which disciples did that and under what circumstances? Please give reference, (e.g. Matt. 5:16) where that is found.
