I would recommend the invisible fence. Petsafe makes several great ones. They are available at you local pet store. There are permanent ones that require you to bury a wire around the perimeter or portable ones that send out a signal from the receiver to form the boundary. The portable ones can be moved and the boundary can be adjusted to be larger or smaller depending on the size of the space. Although this option is pricier than a chain it is a much more humane option. I have a St. Bernard and an English Mastiff, both are very large dogs and my system works great. Just be sure to mark off the boundary with the flags provided in the fence kit and take the dog out on a leash a few times to show him where the boundary is. Most dogs catch on quickly. The fence kit will also include a training video to show you how to train the dog with the fence.

A chain for a 13 week old Siberian Husky isn't a bad thing. It will not make a dog mean especially a husky. I have chained both my huskies and they have done just fine and are in no way mean. You just need to pick a good location also make sure the puppy can't get wrapped around anything and choke. You are going to want to choice a heavy duty chain and a heavy stake that is pounded in the ground. This will prevent him from breaking the chain or tearing the stake out of the ground.

Invisible fences don't always work. A husky loves to run and roam, so this won't always keep him in your yard. If you want a fence you should put a really one in. It must be at least 6 feet high and dug about 1ft in the ground. This will reduce the chance of escaping. I hope this helps. Good Luck!

I would use the invisible fence. Dogs do not like being on the chains and some dogs it can make them mean. The fence will teach them where they can go. If the dog gets off the chain he does not know the limits of the yard and can go anywhere. Don't want him to get hurt by the chain either. With the fence he can run and entertain himself.

I'm all for fencing your yard instead!
I've heard of problems with the collars for the invisible fences that end up injuring dogs. ALSO, they don't prevent other animals from coming onto your property and possibly harming your dog.
I'm not crazy about the chain, but for short times it should not pose a problem.
A less expensive alternative would be just getting a run for your Husky, but be well aware that they are good diggers and very good jumpers :)

Personally I'm against the chain. I'm not sure that an invisible fence will work because I had one of those underground fences for one of my dogs where the dog wears a collar that gives him/her a slight shock when they approach the fence, and she went past it anyway. How about a kennel. They can be purchased in different sizes at home improvment places or tractor supply companies. If you don't have the space for one, take your dog on daily walks, which is what you should do anyway.

well if you do use a chain defiantly give him a nice dog house for shade and don't keep him on the chain for to long. now the electric fences it will take a bit for him to understand his boundaries but i have know quite a bit of dog that are great out side with an electric fence and very well behaved when it come to going outside for a while. I'm not shore about the law with dogs on chains though i think it depends on what state your in but here its against the law to chain dogs up so you just might wanna look that up.

well, he might try to break free of the chains, if there is something he wants to check out, but i think he will be fine.

just make sure that if you let him outside for 30-60 minutes, make sure it is not too hot.

huskys don't do well in the heat.

chaining makes a dog mean, i put my dog on a chain to go pee that's it other than that we just let him roam around with our supervision. take him on a leash and walk him around let him sniff things out the first time. then you should get a 60 foot leash and tie it to your ankle and let him roam around. Then you can introduce him to boundaries, when he goes to far tell him NO! hope that helps if you have any more questions email me at kwolf94@hotmail.com i love dogs and i love helping there owners
