get a used car that is cool such as a camaro or firebird with a v8 and have fun shooing the girls away.

Both of these cars are going to be very expensive for a young male to insure. If you could find a 4dr that can handle and is fairly quick, it would be a lot cheaper to insure. You can get a brand new accord 4dr w/ a V6 and a 6 speed manual for close to your price limits (A nice sleeper car most people do not know about). A used Maxima would not be all together bad either. Neither one handles particularly well though. An 03 Acura 3.2tl type S will be just as fast, handle well, and is nice inside. A Mazdaspeed 3 would fit the bill., but will not be quite as refined or nice inside. Insurance companies typically use what is called a "symbol" to rate the car. That is in a nut shell what it costs to repair, how well the car fares in a crash, and how their clients tend to drive it. Usually goes from 1 (cheapest) to about 27 (porsche territory).

M3 convertible - 25 +
Cooper S - 19-21
Accord - 12-15 (more for the 2dr)
Maxima - 17-19
Acura TL - 18-20 (more for the 2dr)
Mazdaspeed 3 - pretty new, but probably a 19+/-

At your age, this will be a huge factor, not so much so once you are 25-30yrs old.

i'd be incredibly dang happy with any Lexus particularly no rely if that's barely 8 years previous. in my view i think of a lot of them are jealous maximum Lexus's are recognized as very high priced autos. Heck my brother had a Audi a hundred CS 1994 while he became in extreme college. Many have been even jealous of that once he had it 4 years in the past. heavily i'm no longer ripping on you yet only be grateful that your mom and dad paid for it.
