Moses was the Supreme Court if you will of Israel, the first, only, and last theocracy. They had the judicial powers and had the civil and moral and ceremonial laws and their oral traditions all mixed up which made their laws against the laws of God and His intent for the law. Therefore, they couldn't deliver righteous judgment from the seat of Moses. Thank God for separation of church and state but it seems we are headed for the last days where folks have turned their backs on God, "When the wicked rule, the people mourn." A nation's leaders should have righteous judgment and remember the poor, the widow, the fatherless and the downtrodden and not profit from them and be selfish or look down on them and not think they are so good as to be above the law. Funny how man's sins have always been the same ones but the cure is still the same as well!

The seat of Moses is a figurative position of responsibility. Moses was the intermediary between God and man. He brought the edicts and laws from God and taught the people how they were to live. The pharisees, scribes, etc. used their position as a seat of power to control and manipulate which made them hypocrites.

Moses-Of Hebrew origin [H4872]; Moseus, Moses or Mouses (that is, Mosheh), the Hebrew lawgiver: - Moses.

Seat-From G2596 and the same as G1476; a bench (literally or figuratively): - seat.

Matthew 23:2 Saying, The scribes and the Pharisees sit in Moses' seat:

3 All therefore whatsoever they bid you observe, that observe and do; but do not ye after their works: for they say, and do not.
observe Malachi 2:7

4 For they bind heavy burdens and grievous to be borne, and lay them on men's shoulders; but they themselves will not move them with one of their fingers.
bind Luke 11:46

5 But all their works they do for to be seen of men: they make broad their phylacteries, and enlarge the borders of their garments,

He was saying that those men talk a good talk and expect everyone to accept their words as law, but they themselves do not abide by the same laws and one can see that in their actions. They only build up thier own images by quoting the laws, but have no ability to live according to those very laws themselves.

That is why Jesus referred to them as "blind guides" how can someone of spritual importance guide a person, if they themselves are blind to the word of God?

The pharasies and scribes spoke of the Temple being "a holy place",and and the same time, critized Jesus for busting up the market place that was set up in the very temple they stated themselves to be a "HOLY PlACE OF WORSHIP"

Moses' Seat:

“In the event that [the people] have a case arise, it must come to me and I must judge between the one party and the other, and I must make known the decisions of the true God and his laws.”

In this, Moses indicated that he recognized his duty to judge, not according to his own ideas, but according to Jehovah’s decisions and that, moreover, he had the responsibility to help the people to know and recognize God’s laws.—Ex 18:5-7, 13-27.
Moses repeatedly pointed to Jehovah, and not himself, as the real Leader.

Since the scribes and the Pharisees profess to teach God’s Law, Jesus now urges his listeners: “All the things they tell you, do and observe, but do not do according to their deeds, for they say but do not perform.” (Matthew 23:1-3) What a powerful public denunciation!

Moses replaced into the ideally suited court docket in case you will of Israel, the 1st, basically, and extremely final theocracy. that they had the judicial powers and had the civil and ethical and ceremonial rules and their oral traditions all mixed up which made their rules against the guidelines of God and His purpose for the regulation. hence, they could no longer grant righteous judgment from the seat of Moses. The Amplified has the better translation "verse 2 reads "The scribes and Pharisees sit on Moses' seat of authority" that is they sat in a place of authority handed down by God, but they abused that authority but until God overthrown that system of religous practice they were still in a place of authority, Church leaders are not perfect but "IF" there telling you want to do IS WITH IN The Law and teachings OF THE BIBLE not taken out of context they are to be obeyed. in the commandments we are told to "honor our parents" that is obey "IN THE LORD" Did you know that command DOES NOT stop because the child has become of age? Moses' Seat refers to a chair, or office. It is an oral tradition as it is not found in the Old Testament. Jesus did NOT condemn all traditions, just the ones made up. This tradition is NOT made up, because Jesus tells them to obey those who sit there, but don't do as they do.
Matt. 10:1,40 - Jesus declares to His apostles, "he who receives you, receives Me, and he who rejects you, rejects Me and the One who sent Me." Jesus freely gives His authority to the apostles in order for them to effectively convert the world.

Matt. 16:19; 18:18 - the apostles are given Christ's authority to make visible decisions on earth that will be ratified in heaven. God raises up humanity in Christ by exalting his chosen leaders and endowing them with the authority and grace they need to bring about the conversion of all. Without a central authority in the Church, there would be chaos (as there is in Protestantism).

Luke 9:1; 10:19 - Jesus gives the apostles authority over the natural and the supernatural (diseases, demons, serpents, and scorpions).

Luke 10:16 - Jesus tells His apostles, "he who hears you, hears Me." When we hear the bishops' teaching on the faith, we hear Christ Himself.

Luke 22:29 - the Father gives the kingdom to the Son, and the Son gives the kingdom to the apostles. The gift is transferred from the Father to the Son to the apostles.

Num 16:28 - the Father's authority is transferred to Moses. Moses does not speak on his own. This is a real transfer of authority.

John 5:30 - similarly, Jesus as man does nothing of His own authority, but He acts under the authority of the Father.

John 7:16-17 - Jesus as man states that His authority is not His own, but from God. He will transfer this authority to other men.

John 8:28 - Jesus says He does nothing on His own authority. Similarly, the apostles will do nothing on their own authority. Their authority comes from God.

John 12:49 - The father's authority is transferred to the Son. The Son does not speak on his own. This is a transfer of divine authority.

John 13:20 - Jesus says, "he who receives anyone who I send, receives Me." He who receives the apostles, receives Christ Himself. He who rejects the apostles and their successors, rejects Christ.
