I think that anyone already here should be eligible to APPLY for permanent residency provided all of the conditions are met:

They don't have a criminal record
They are self supporting
Pay all the necessary fees for processing their application (no different than now)
Will be ineligible for citizenship, just permanent residency. If they want to be a citizen some day then they have to leave the country and apply to reenter. That's a penalty for being in the country illegally. A fine is also appropriate as long as it is not unreasonable.

Does anyone on here know how much money this would bring to the US??? About $1500 to $2000 a person. That is alot of money. Plus, if the illegals apply for legal residency and it isn't under amnesty, they have to pay fines for being here illegally. SO inturn that is alot more money. So all this money that the government would get, would help the whole entire economy. Then plus they have to pay each year if they have a work permit, that's another $100. And then if they ever apply to become a citizen that's another $400 or more. Most of the stuff that you have to do with immigration cost alot of money, so the government would get alot of money if we did the amnesty thing.

Amnesty Is Not An Option

The Idea Of Granting Amnesty To 20 Million ILLEGAL ALIENS
Is A Concept That Was Introduced Early In This Debate
By The National Council Of LA RAZA
Who DEMANDED "Nothing Less Than Amnesty"

It Is Not, Nor Will It Be Entertained As A Solution

The Citizens Of The USA Will NOT Permit It

I think amnesty is a reward for criminal behavior. The majority of legal Americans do not want a blanket amnesty for illegal aliens. Here are some crime stats you might be interested in if you live in Los Angeles.

In Los Angeles, 95 percent of all outstanding warrants for homicide (which total 1,200 to 1,500) target illegal aliens. Up to two-thirds of all fugitive felony warrants (17,000) are for illegal aliens.

• A confidential California Department of Justice study reported in 1995 that 60 percent of the 20,000-strong 18th Street Gang in southern California is illegal; police officers say the proportion is actually much greater. The bloody gang collaborates with the Mexican Mafia, the dominant force in California prisons, on complex drug-distribution schemes, extortion, and drive-by assassinations, and commits an assault or robbery every day in L.A. County. The gang has grown dramatically over the last two decades by recruiting recently arrived youngsters, most of them illegal, from Central America and Mexico.

• The leadership of the Columbia Lil’ Cycos gang, which uses murder and racketeering to control the drug market around L.A.’s MacArthur Park, was about 60 percent illegal in 2002, says former assistant U.S. attorney Luis Li. Francisco Martinez, a Mexican Mafia member and an illegal alien, controlled the gang from prison, while serving time for felonious reentry following deportation.

Not really the kind of people that need to be given amnesty are they?.I KNOW that all ,not even most,of illegals will not comite a hard core crime but this group here needs to be arrested and put away for life.

Of course the citizens will permit it. Just like they did last time. The law will be passed without any uprising. By the time you realize you should have done something it will be too late. There aren't enough activists these days. People sit there and yell at their television screen but don't get off their butts to do anything about it. We'll give amnesty to 20 million illegals and in ten years we'll have another 10-15 million illegals to deal with. The great United States. The great melting pot of the worlds criminals.

Illegal behavior should not be rewarded just because a lot of people are doing it. We have immigration laws for a reason.

My sister in law came here with her parents and family in the late 80's; they came here legally and shortly after they arrived they got legal residency. However, my siser in law had turned 18 and was not granted legal residency. So, she is an "illegal". She is married, has 2 daughters and her status in this country is 'Illegal'.
I ask all of you who are against amnesty WHAT ABOUT THE MANY, MANY PEOPLE IN THIS COUNTRY IN SITUATIONS LIKE THIS?
