Why do they have lids?

It's not a lid! It's a back rest, so your back doesn't get cold leaning on the cistern!

The lid keeps the cat from drowning the bird.

A toilet is certainly the least attractive appliance one can own, but can become more so in NOT flushing, or mineral deposit buildup. Besides that the lid offers a place for the CAT,,, and US to sit when we clip our gnarly toe nails.

The only time the LID should be UP, is when you might be worshiping at the Porcelain alter, after over imbibing.

They give you another seat. They keep out dog drinkers. They keep hair brushes from falling in. They look neater. The ones in prisons don't so as long as you are in a place with a lid on the toilet it could be worse.
