Which do you think is better a inside dog or an outside dog? a small dog or a large dog? Why? The reason I wanted to know all your opinions is because when i move out ( in two to four years), I would like t get an inside dog but would like to know what you all think. My dad says i will regret it because my house will be filthy and a mess because of this. But we actually had a MIn Pin several yrs ago and it seemed fine in the house. Your opinions would be appreciated!! Thanks.

No dog should ever be an outside dog. But with small dogs, it is even more the case. Large dogs can easily live inside as long as they are properly trained and exercised. It's all about the situation and the circumstance.

When you move out in a few years, you need to make sure that you are going to be stable for at least 10-20 years before you look into getting a dog. Just because you are no longer at home does not mean you should get a dog. What happens if you have to move to a 'no pets' place? What happens if there is a $1000 vet bill? What happens if you are working 8-10 hours a day? Dogs are a huge responsibility that too many people take lightly - be sure that you plan for any circumstances that might pop up.

Our opinions on the type of dog that you get are moot. You need to get a dog that fits your lifestyle, activity level, and personality. It's just plain stupid for someone to recommend a dog to you without knowing any of that information and it would be irresponsible of you to take any of that advice without thoroughly researching the breed. Wait until you are moved out and settled and then re-examine all factors. Do plenty of research and make sure that you can provide a home and ALL care to this dog for the rest of his life. Good luck to you. : )

It all depends on how big your house is. If you live in a small apartment, large dogs are not a very good idea. Outdoor dogs are usually used for guarding purposes, but it's preferable to have enough yard space so that it can move around freely. Indoor dogs aren't a problem, as long as they're house-broken and properly trained in general.

Dogs are pack animals and very socialable.Leaving them outside alone to them is punishment. They want and NEED to be with the pack.Evan if the pack is just you and the dog.
No dog should be kept outside unless the owner makes great effort to spend as much quality time with the dog as possible on a daily basis.
Your house won't stink if you clean it regularly.Kids make far worse messes than dogs. The dog may be a bit smelly but kids are far filthier little beasts to have inside than a dog is.
I know.I've had kids, grandkids and friends kids in my house.I've also had indoor dogs my whole adult life. The dogs are cleaner, they mind better and are far more respectful and considerate than kids.
Dogs are alot of work to clean up after but if you spend a little bit every day on grooming and cleaning you won't live in filth.

I prefer large indoor/outdoor dogs. I love my Lab and Aussie and they are great. Small or large breed, let them inside. Dogs are pack animals and want nothing more than to be with you...inside the home. Having indoor dogs does require vacuuming, but it is well worth the company.

Our small dogs are inside almost 24/7. The golden goes outside to roam everyday. She usually sleeps inside unless she won't come in, then she sleeps on the porch. She comes in during the day whenever she wants to, but often she prefers to stay out if it is nice. The last few weeks she has been inside most of the time with just a few potty breaks a day because it's cold.

i have had several dogs throughout the years.

pros of an inside dog:
no fleas
not smelly
don't have to worry about them getting run over
they don't chase cars
when taught properly they can be good guard dogs

pros of outside dog:
warn you when there is someone there

cons of inside dog:
if not potty trained they "go" wherever
they sometimes like to eat your shoes
they will eat on your furniture some will some won't
if not taught not to do it they will beg for food (pet peeve for me)

cons of outside dog:
fleas
they stink
they chase cars
they could get run over
they will get in the garbage if it is left out
they bark a long with the other dogs in the neighborhood
they could run off
they could run off and get another dog preg. or become preg.

big dog vs. little dog
i prefer big dogs rather than little dogs, not sure why but they seem to be more protective and have deep growls and barks vs. little sissy growls and barks from a smaller dog. but that is just me, we used to have a little chiuahuah (sorry about the spelling) and that little turd drove me crazy he was always getting stepped on or sat on he almost got ran over a couple of times and then he did get ran over, they are harder to see and just aren't that effective when it comes to strangers. hope this helped, holly

No pet dog should be an "outdoor" dog. Dogs are not ment to be kept outdoors only, it's just cruel. As for large or small dogs, it really depends on your living situation. There are good traits for both but it personally depends on what YOU are like. Reaserch different breeds and see which would better fit your life style. Personally, my favorites range from very large to medium sized dogs, but little dogs are fun too. Like i said it all depends on how you are and your living situation.

I prefer indor dogs to outdoor dogs and I prefer Larger dogs to smaller dogs. I have had 2 doberman's, a puggle, and a mutt Granted not all at the same time. They were all indoor dogs. But as long as they are potty trained and you keep the house clean everything would be ok.

personally i would an inside dog for a family pet. an outside dog for a security business or possibly working dog. as for a small or large breed it depend on the space and time you have for a dog. everyone to which suits best. all dogs can be house trained whether puppy or adult it depends on how much effort/ your willing to put in. it doesnt have to be messy i have 2 dogs which live inside and our house is clean and smell free. all because we house trained them.

i sorta have both... the trouble with indoor dogs is that they will make your house messy .....no doubt about that ( what might limit this factor is if you got one that didn't shed) either way my dogs don't stay indoors the full time they like to sunbath on the deck .... i like large dogs like labs, great danes, saint bernards, bloodhounds, but then i also like mediem size dogs like jack russell terriers....well if you want a dog that luvs to play and is really really smart , has lots of energy , is sassy ( in a cute smart way), luvs to hunt ( or chase things which can be very amusing ) , will make you laugh then jrts (jack russell terriers) are the dogs for you
