I need to temporarily receive welfare checks for 6 ms....I'm a single mom, always worked...an emergency situation with my family is making it necessary that I quit work for 6 ms.. I'll still need income of course. I have paid taxes into the welfare system all my life and when I need to take advantage of it for once, they tell me there is no such thing as welfare any more ...where people can just decide not to work, and are too lazy...whatever.....You have to be disabled...doctor proven....or something that the government considers you to qualify you as "exempt" form their "work program" (where if you can't find a job, and want to go on welfare they'll put you to work for the county to "work out" your welfare check amount.) That's all fine for lazy people...and I feel some people take advantage of the system.....but I just need it temporarily, but I am not going to be able to "work it out" . I'm not disabled or anything. Do you know of a "qualifying exemption" from the work program ?

Start contacting some of your local politicians: assembley members, state representatives, state senators, right up to your U.S. Congressional representative. THIS is one of the reasons they are there. They have connection in a lot of areas, and can get things done quickly for the right reasons.
You don't have to tell them what party you belong to or anything, just let them know you ARE a registered voter, and that you would greatly appreciate their support.
Good Luck!

What state do you live in? I guess you were just to honest. The state I live in is over run with people on welfare who shouldn't be and when someone legitimately needs it they don't get anything. I am disabled and I don't qualify for state insurance or anything else. Go figure. I hope you find some help.

In some states what you said is true. In my state you can't just get money just because you feel you don't want to work. Check with your church and tell them what your emergency is. They might know what you can do.

Also there is no money out there for free if you have money in the bank. Why not tell us the emergency and see if someone here help lead you to the right place.
