What happens if a dog has glaucoma and you do not remove the eye?

My dog developed it in his left eye. It started out as a very small hazy spot and continued to worsen over the years. Eventually he went blind in both eyes. The progression was slow and he was able to adjust and compensate as it worsened. It was very sad to watch...I couldn't afford the removal procedure.

The dog will go blind in time. There are eye drops they make for people and I assume they have them for dogs, or, the people drops may work.
Now, I will tell you about my situation. I have a high eye pressure. At first I was on eye drops and then my Doctor wanted to take me off as the Optical Nerve looked good. What he explained is now they feel many people have high pressure, but, it not Glaucoma. So, no need to take drops if you not need too. And he keep an close watch on my Optical Nerve. It been 3 years that I used drops and everything looks good.
With this said, at the time he explained this, I asked; "Well, if we wrong on this and I do have Glaucoma, how long before I would go blind"? He said; "Well, first you would slowly lose peripheral vision and over time go blind, it may take 20 years". So, I said; "OK, I be dead by then and it not a big deal". Then we laughed hoping I live longer and not go blind.
Now, with ALL that said; the dog may not live to go Blind and be a happy dog and friend for many years, without any intervention. This my opinion from what I have learn talking with my Eye Doctor and not just listening without asking questions.

My dog had glaucoma years ago and we had his eye removed. There were medical consequences for not removing the eye but I don't remember what they were. What I do remember is that this normally sweet, docile dog who wouldn't hurt a flea tried to bite the veterinarian when she got close to his eye. Good thing she moved quickly.

So, at the very least, you get a lawsuit when your dog bites someone.
