A German Shepherd is a wonderful dog. Some people think all German Shepherds are aggressive, but it's all the owners fault. I have 2 and they would never hurt a fly. They protect the house and my kids. They would risk their life for us if they had to. Labs are another good dog but you have to watch their weight very closely, so not to become overweight. Also Labs love to chew EVERYTHING

I have a Shih-tzu called Banjo. He is one of the daftest, loving, playful and cuddly dogs I have ever had. I bought him a 'hoodie' when the weather came a bit cold and it was so funny to see my husband taking him for his walk with his little jacket on with the hood up !
If Carlesberg made a dog it would be a Shih-tzu !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
There are pics of Shih-tzu 'Show' dogs, but mines a right scruff! I'm seriously thinking of getting a b'tch so I can mate him just once and have a houseful of gorgeous fluffy Banjos !

The absolute BEST dog for a family is a Labrador Retriever. Black, Chocolate, or Yellow. It doesn't matter. AND if you can find one crossed with another kind of dog, that's even better! Muts are less expensive and alot less hyper than pure breeds. Good luck on finding one.

First off I would suggest a female dog they are a lot better than a male. Females listen better and don't try and run off as much. As for the breed I would suggest a doberman or puggle. Just make sure you get them as puppies and have the time and energy to take care of them and train them.

The best dog is one that you get from the dog pound and is mixed. They have been the most faithful good and grateful dogs. Purebreed always have a issue of becoming mean as they get older.

A labradore retreiver is defenitly the way to go. they are kind and loyal, they are playful, but not too routy. They are excellent around children, and do not geet much larger than 70 pounds. They are also very trainable, so trainable in fact that they are used as seeing eye dogs.

a well trained and socialized dog...also consider the ages of your family members and whether or not this dog will be able to be part of the family pack or will be left home alone. read up on breed traits to help you decide.

Check out your local shelter or SPCA. There your family can interact with the adoptable animals and see how your personalities match. I highly recommend rescues, they've turned out to be the best pets I've ever had.
