Is it okay to bathe a dog that has stitches from a spay. The incision is healed, but the vet won't take them out until Monday. They told me stitch removal in 10-14 days... today is day 10, but they won't do it! She is dirty and desperatly needs a bath!

I don't think thats a good idea. You might interfere with the removal by drying it out

Tough problem, but I would not bath her. The reason being that the stitches can act as a wick through the skin and be the source of infection even if the incision seems to be healed. There are other methods of grooming besides bathing that can be used in the mean time. Dry bath products are sold in pet sections. Baking soda works too, but must be brushed out more vigorously because of the high sodium content. Not dangerous, but dogs are licking animals and too much salt is not good for anyone. Be patient.
This will get me some thumbs down because I have no way of knowing your experience level, or what supplies you may have on hand, but if I felt confident the stitches were ready to come out, I can and would take them out myself, rubbing the area before and after with some betadine.

If she needs a bath that bad, then wet a cloth and DAB her. Do not give her a bath. If i was a vet, i would wait until the 14th day to take out the stitches too :o) I would also ask your vet though, just in case!

yes, you can wash her...our office removed stitches after 14 days so your vet is being cautious to benefit your pet. I would not soap up the incision area just wash around it.

You need to wait until the stitches are removed,as it may cause them to get infected if you get them wet.Try using some dry shampoo that can be purchased for pets, but don't get it near the stitches.

If you are never sure on something it is best to wait the extra couple of days or call up a vet and ask them if it is ok. You wouldn't want something going wrong because you bathed your pet.

Awh, i'm sorry. I hate even as they ought to placed on the satellite tv for pc dish. humorous... yet so unhappy. i trust i have offered cat/canines wipes for his or her fur formerly. i recognize I have for the cats, yet i do not bear in mind in the journey that they are ideal for the canines. they're like hand wipes... Definately do not get those stitches moist.

I would wait. The soap will get on the stitches no matter how careful you are. A little dirt never killed anyone.

NO!! A dog's stitches can't get wet any more than a person's can.
