Roger, my dog, knows all his commands. However sometimes I will give him a command and he will look at me then walk away. I know he knows how to do what I ask. But sometimes he just looks at me and walks away. The other day we were at the dog park and it was time to go so I called him and he came halfway looked at me and ran off. How do I stop this?

You might get the help of a trainer. They can show you what to do to follow through with your commands. Roger does this because he can.

Don't use the crate as punishment - this will cause him to not like his crate - and we need to use crates and want them to be positive.

Until you teach him to come when called - and like the person said above- don't always call him and leave. But until then - if you are desparate - I would run away towards the gate. The dog should chase you especially if he thinks you are leaving. This is helpful if dogs escape out the front door - get their attention and run the other way to make them chase you - praise them when they get there.

He is not taking you seriously. You need to be the 'alpha male' he is deciding what to do and what not to do. When you want him to come though- this is the #1 RULE!- never ever get angry. Always have a smile on your voice and in a happy voice say "Roger COME" and keep repeating this. He will think, OMG there must be something very exciting. When he comes to you give him a treat and praise Roger. Also, if you only call your dog when it is time to go... why would he want to come?!?! Throughout the time that you are at the park, call him about once every 15mins and praise him and give him a treat and let him go off and play.

Um sorry i have to go :o( This e-mail needs to be much longer for my liking, as i hvae only answered one of your 'prob.s' There are many more things that you can do.

i can give you much much much more help that you will probibly need!

When he doesn't listen to you, discipline him. Put him in his kennel or something and tell him he's bad. Then after a little while bring him out and repeat the command, if he doesn't do it again, put him back in the kennel. If he does do the command, give him a treat or tell him he's good and pet him.
