Quite often I see the whole family out shopping, especially in the supermarket. You can tell when Dad doesn't want to be there but the vacant look on his face, the kids are playing up, mum is stressed. I go on my own, leave kids with Dad and he helps bring in the shopping when I get back. It is a joy for me as I don't have anyone with me who doesn't need to be!!

I shop with my husband and almost 3 year old son (19 more days) for everything. Of course minus like personal items. Grocery shopping and clothes shopping and even present shopping we make a family affair.

I don't know why more men don't like to go shopping as a family so they can have a say in what it bought. Before we go shopping we already know what we are going for (most of the time) and that makes it easier.

I am a full time college student (nursing) and my husband works VERY hard and lots of hours. Shopping is a great time to actually talk about our week and just spend time as a family. We are a family and things bought for our house should be chosen as a family.

But I don't agree with MAKING someone go shopping if they don't want to. If your husband hates it and your kids are rowdy and don't listen well they don't belong in a supermarket or store. Your children's behavior effects EVERYONE in the store. If this is the case, simply ask the grandparents (or someone else) to watch the children and you and hubby go shopping together or you shop alone while hubby gets in some quality sport tv watching time. This also gives others a chance to spend time with your children.

I do my shopping on my own in a maximum of 7 minutes. If it's with a woman, I have to sit down a few times and it takes 45 minutes.

ps I've love to go shopping with more women.

I rarely go shopping with my whole family. My husband thinks he is a better shopper than me, faster and more efficient, except he keeps throwing stuff in the trolley that has no relevance to how we live! Sometimes my 14 yr old will tag along, he's helpful when he's in the right mood.
Mostly I prefer it to be just me.

As a Long Term Single Mom - I did most of my shopping around my work times and the times the children were in school or at their activities (just more pleasant - and my children were disabled on top of it -- which makes it very difficult).

The ONLY times I would take them with is when I was shopping for new clothes for them -- and then ... with disabled kids -- it is SHEER HELL -- ever try to use one of those 'try on' places and be in there with your disabled child and to have them constantly complaining about fit, etc? Plus, one had Asperger's Syndrome (Autism Spectrum Disorder), and she was sensitive to many materials -- just did not like the feel of certain articles of clothing.

I do the same. If I take my husband shopping with me I usually forget something and end up spending more than I do normally as he ends up putting things we don't really need in the trolley. So I go on my own and he gets to spend time with our daughter
