yes you can but why would you.msg is a flavour enhancer but its not very nice stuff..use a tad of seasalt and ground blackpepper to season your batter

As you can see, there are loads of different recipes and most of those submitted are ok and will work. The beer or fizzy water batter is particularly good and if it is well chilled will help to make the batter crispy. Only make it a minute or two before you use it though so it is very cold and the liquid is still fizzing. However, you should be aware that most good fish and chip shops only use two ingredients - plain flour and tap water. In fact there was a chippy on the TV the other morning on a cookery programme which had just been awarded the title best Chippy in Britain. They use - just flour and water.

Why on earth would you want to use MSG? It's a flavour enhancer, pure chemical!! You will more than likely find that your commercial batter has already had it added! The best batter for fish is.. dust yur fish in flour and then dip in an egg!!

You can use MSG if you want to run off customers---- a bunch of people are allergic to peanuts, peanut oil, and MSG ..it is a reaction that will send them into shock and require an Emergency Room visit .... use some other spice that is good tasting and causes no problems---- the allergic part is serious--
