It doesn't seem like my dog drinks much water, and I am worried about it. I did the dehydrated test on him, and it looks like he's not dehydrated right now; however, what happens if he becomes dehydrated? Is it fatal?

Maybe he's drinking from outside puddles or the toilet. Sounds gross but they do that sometimes. Dehydration will eventually make the kidneys shut down & cause heart problems. As long as he's peeing OK & the urine isn't dark he's OK. Wouldn't hurt to ask a vet. Also dogs who eat canned food drink less water. Hope this helps.

If for some reason your dog was to become Dehydrated it is just a quick fix to the vet, they can hydrate him fast either via sub Q fluids or IV fluids. Remember they do get fluids and electrolytes from the food they eat to so not all hydration is considere with just water consumption. and some dogs don't in general drink a lot of water.

Dont listen to the people who tell you your dog will die. It wont unless it doesnt drink water for more than two weeks. Make sure there are plenty of water bowls that your dog knows about with room temperature water. That should help. If not put a little water in your dogs food that will at least keep him a little hydrated. And you know if you drink a little bit of liquid and then stop you feel like you have to drink more, well that is what should happen to your little furry friend. Hope your pup gets better.

yes, it can be. you should also be checking the color of his gums in addition to the skin twist test for dehydration. gums should be pink like ours. could he be getting water from a source other than his water dish? our dog drinks out of a relaxation fountain and there's always the toilet, mud puddles etc. In the summer we give our dogs ice cubes to play with outside to get a little more in them. My husband mixes the dry dog food with warm water to give them more fluids. please be sure to speak with your vet or vet tech about your concerns.
