This is despite having really bad gas when I tried to lite it. So I'm wondering if there is a trick to doing it or if it is a myth.

This is not a myth. I have two boys who are great at it. You do not need to remove clothes. Just make sure you get the lighter close enough. I have known it to suck back in and the paints get warm but thats about it. With out pants on I imagine this could burn you.

No it's not a myth. A fart is highly flammable..in fact if i were you, unless you know what your doing you shouldn't try to do it. if you don't let go of the lighter at the right time you could end up burning your bum. By the way it's called a blue flame...lol

wow why would you even want to do that. You can do it though. I guess if your not wearing any clothes and your legs are open it would work better but then of course youd probably end up in the ER with burns..like to see you tell them how you got them!

yes its real . try holding the flame a few inches above the uuummm HOLE .the gas will travel up . have fun and dont catch the house on fire . p.s i did it with cloths on

YEAH YOU PULL ALL CLOTHES OFF AND SOMEONE LIGHTS A LIGHTER AT YOUR ANUS AS YOU BLOW THE FART IT LOOKS LIKE A FLAME THROWER A HUGE FIREBALL!
and 1 x i had a torch working in a manhole and i farted and the whole place lit up ! it was funny as hell !

I saw a woman do this on TV and she burnt herself pretty badly, it was sort of like an explosion.
It may have been safer if she was wearing pants.

I wouldn't recommend that you do this - is can be done - with or without clothes - check it out on YouTube. You can be horribly burned.
