You can add Arts & Craft activities to your countdown...like one day have a handprint done (great gift for mom & dad from them also)....one day you can make your own ornaments for the tree...have a cookie baking day for santa....also, check with the local library and see if they are having any special events like reading with Mrs claus....you can add that as an event of the day....have a rehersal day...hehe...have the kids wrap empty boxes with old paper, and then let them practice giving them to other people, or unwrapping them themselves....you can even put I love you sentiments in the boxes....this activity will also help on Christmas morning when they need to understand that everyone gets to open boxes and not just them....I can come up with more ideas if you want....these are just from the top of my head...

What about Kris Kringle? You all write down code names on a piece of paper and draw lots. Then every week the description of the small gift is describe , like "something cute" ; then the following week - "something nice", etc. Christmas day will be the revelation day where the code names are identified and the "real" gifts are given. The weekly gifts need not be expensive. It can be a drawing, a flower outside the garden, a leaf, a cut out, a piece of candy..whatever..the idea is to create suspense and excitement.

The scavenger hunt is a great idea for kids that are a little older. To help them count down till Christmas I use strips of paper connected together where each ring is one day. Every day the kids get to take out one ring. They can watch it get smaller and smaller. It does bring about a lot of questions and high energy as the number of rings dwindle, but it is fun to watch them get ready for the big day.

There are tons of inexpensive things to do.
*Read to them a favorite book.
*Game of Hide and Seek
*Play blocks and build towers. Using empty milk cartons is fun.
*Get a refridgerator box and build a little play house spaceship that they can go inside. Let them decorate it.
*Take them to an indoor pool for a swim.
*Trip to the zoo or aquarium (weekends)
*Hide pieces of a train. I found a battery operated wood train set that was pretty heavy duty for the little guys. Once they found the entire train then they got to put it under the tree. They loved the train whistle and cap and I have girls.
*Make Christmas cookies for them to decorate.
You can make Christmas wrapping paper. Buy some Christmas color paper and poster board paint bright colors. Have them stamp the paper with their hand prints.
Spray paint small puzzle pieces red, green, gold, silver. Once dry take a photo of them and glue a wreath around the photo making an ornament.
Hope this helps
