is it a sign of old age in cats for their winds to be frequent and smell of rotten eggs .. or would a change in diet help .. the cat has wet food from a pouch in the morning and dry food for the rest of the day ..

Take your cat to the vet. There are several medical reasons your cat may have developed this problem. I feed my cats the same thing you do, but there are also lots of differences in the quality of dry food, especially. If it's nothing medical, you may find switching to a better quality dry food is a simple answer. More expensive, but hopefully your cat is worth it.

Your cat is also nearly considered to be a 'senior'. Just like people, older cats have different needs than younger cats.

Take a look at a few links I've provided that discuss this subject, but I strongly suggest just getting the cat to the vet and let a professional make the evaluation.

If there are any recent changes in your cat's digestive tract response that really get your attention, not explained by a change of diet, a vet check is advisable. Especially true if they go outside. There are parasites they can get drinking "wild" water as well as eating small rodents and birds. If this is a problem you have noticed for a long time and the pet is otherwise healthy with normal stools you may just try a higher quality feed for a while and by all means if you ever give you cat cows milk, stop now. If you must give it a dairy treat, make it a cat friendly one from the pet suppliers or try canned goats milk. That doesn't seem to cause problems.
