It seems like bands such as Switchfoot, Relient K, or Mat Kearny make their message of faith a little more encoded than they were before once they turn popular and mainstream. Why does it feel like they should be using their popularity for the ways of God in more obvious lyrics, the way they used to?

never heard of mat Kearny, but Switchfoot and relient K have never really had lyrics to their songs that were explictilly christian. Just because they are being played on different radio stations doesn't mean that they have changed their lyrics any. As for switchfoot in particullar I know they never wanted to be a "christian" band, and I know they were very happy when they finally got some recognition elsewhere.

How come you arn't asking about MercyMe? because they have always sang explicitlly about God, look at their older stuff they havn't changed lyrically. On the other hand switchfoot hasn't changed either, look at their older stuff (the reference link) they havn't changed lyrically as well

Switchfoot and Relient K haven't changed. If you listen to their lyrics on their older cds it's still balanced out about the same. Relient K has always "encoded" things a little more that other bands, but at the same time they have a few songs that are all out worship type songs. And I saw Relient k in concert (Some music festival, completely NOT Christian) a few weeks ago and they totally use their platform to witness. I was really impressed with them.

The rocky soil represents those who hear the message with joy. But like young plants in such soil, their roots don't go very deep. They believe for a while, but they wilt when the hot winds of testing blow. The thorny ground represents those who hear and accept the message, but all too quickly the message is crowded out by the cares and riches and pleasures of this life. And so they never grow into maturity.
Luke 8:13-14

Sell what you have and give to those in need. This will store up treasure for you in heaven! And the purses of heaven have no holes in them. Your treasure will be safe-no thief can steal it and no moth can destroy it. Wherever your treasure is, there your heart and thoughts will also be.

I ask the SAME thing! That is why I dont really listen to those christian rock bands. I think that money changes people- even people who were once really serving the Lord- Because as the Bible says "The Love of money is the root of all evil"

-Many fall away because of this-

But hopefully some of those bands are truly wanting to get the message out about Jesus Christ. That is why I love worship music so much.

I think it's because they feel safe in the category of "Christian" and once they find out that they're pretty good, well, money gets the most of them. The more popular the music is, the more money. It's that simple. What most people want to hear is not Christian, and greed takes over.

Because once they hit it big, their God is money. The less you preach to the masses, the less you offend. The less you offend, the more you appeal to the mainstream. The more you appeal to the mainstream, the more money you make.

It's called selling out and musicians from all genres have done it for years. Geez....Bob Dylan is hawking lingerie...

These people change because they have submitted to thier flesh instead of staying in the spirit. Temptaion has overtook thier lives and the glory now is seeked for thier selves and not the glory for God. Its sad to see this happen for many were called for the will of God, and many have fallen short of the will....Keep these people in prayer, for one day they have to answer to Jesus on thier judgment day.

many time is that when suchs peple lost tourch of God, they want to still keeps to their fame and and sing what will still keeps thier supporters.

and you know that there is no vacum in the spirit, if we do not fill with the spirit of God another spirit will come, look at case of Saul the king of Israel before david now play harps to cast away the evil spirit form her body.

they should learn how to key in the spirit of God, i tell you is not in your place alone even in my country too.

they become greedy. I have noticed, that many of the religious pop-artists start to "sell the cross" (or sell the half-naked body furnitured with cross) or something otherwise unappropriet.

I dont think it`s a good idea at all for religious musicians to become artists if they cant separate music from religion
