Yes, because the USAF is pouring their money into UAVs (Unmanned Air Vehicles) and UCAVs (Unmanned Combat Air Vehicles). But to fly without any human help whatsoever, they'll need to develop AI (Artificial Intelligence) to fly them. Could take years.

SCARY! I'm sorry but as a pilot. I would Never get on an airplane without someone at the controls. There are so many factors not just in take off Cruise flight and landings. Unexpected things happen all the time. A shift in wind direction on short final. An emergency in flight. Sure when you read a report about plane crash most of the time you will come up with the cause of the crash as pilot error. Well who wants the cause to be computer error? What if the computer has a glitch and sends the plane into a 90 degree decent at about 10,000 feet per min. No one is there to fix that? Man...No way I would get on that airplane.
Ananshik....73% of crashes are pilot error. This is true but you have to understand that computers make errors also. The NTSB will say its pilot error even if you loose and engine. If you ditch the aircraft in the sea for example. The report will read: The cause of the crash was due to pilot error in that the pilot ditched the airplane in the sea. A CONTRIBUTING factor was loss of engin power. Read up before you make statements you don't understand.

hmmm, not in the near future, but yes they will eventually.
Planes already fly a lot by themselves, and Pilots are just there to do some of the things the planes can't do.
And yes they already do have planes flying without people. They have made huge passenger jets into remote control airplanes, seriously. No one on board, and although they aren't the smoothest rides, they do work. But no one has been allowed to ride in one yet.
I think the biggest problem with getting pilotless planes would be the passengers, would you really feel safe with no pilot in the cockpit. What if the computer crashed, or if there was an emergency in the cabin. How would the computer know? I am sure they could do it and most likely will in the future, although every plane would need to be refitted and every runway, and every airport, and every control tower, etc. It would be extremely expensive.
So, i say yes, but not very soon, and there will be a lot of errors in the early going of it and most likely accidents. It will be a rough ride but eventually yes.

There are actually two answers:
1. It is entirely practicable to do without an aeroplane driver
2. It will never happen.
Answer 1 is a technical fact, but Answer 2 is the psychological reality. The London Underground has had trains running for something like 30 years that do not require a driver, however public confidence requires a driver. In the meantime we'll invest in a bulldog and put him in the cockpit, he is there to make sure the pilot doesn't interfere with the aeroplane's controls!

The military already has and is using unmanned planes (Global Hawk, Preditor, X-45). They are not flown from the ground. They do have a operator that can send commands but ultimately the airplane has to fly and land itself. As for the points made about computers crashing. Most of the recent, modern airliners are fly by wire. Even with pilots onboard, if the computers crash so will the airplane. To prevent this, most have four independent computers to control the airplane.

No. You will always need a pilot. Computers could fly the plane someday, but you cannot depend hundreds of lives on a computer.

The military already has this type of aircraft, unmanned planes. They continue to develop new technology with these aircraft everyday. Although I don't see in the near future any commercial aircraft or private aircraft flying automatically without any pilots.

We haven't got COMPLETE autopilots, but we have come pretty close. We have DRONES that are technically pilotless, but a person on the ground " Videogames " the actual flying. The autopilots can do hands off landings too. The problem still exists; what can you do if the computer BSOD in flight?
( That is my fantasy; Bill Gates is one one of those planes and the computer will shut down because of WGA. His codes don't work and he augers in...)

Yes This will happen coz this is dh Future
U knw wht studies hav found out tht 73 % of all aircraft crashes happen due 2 human error so using a computer or artificial Intelliengence 2 fly planes or drive vehicles will b much safer i guess
