I have three cats: 1 adult and two 7 month old kittens. All they want to do is eat all day. Especially the little ones. They got really fat even though they get plenty of exercise. I don't over feed them as the vet has told me that I give them the right amount of food. The vet said that they have worms and has given them tablets. But nothing has changed. They go absolutely berserk when it is meal time. I have to put them outside while I prepare their meals as it is impossible to keep them indoors. Once I let them in, they literally fly through the door. Once they finish their food they want to eat the leftovers of the dogs' food as well as ours. Today I spilled oil from a tin of tuna fish onto my trousers and one of the cats has actually eaten away that part of my trousers. We live in the country and they catch mice too, but they just seem permanently hungry. What is going on with them?

i se it an a competition, like they are trying to out eat the other ones. I have many and i solved this by putting out a self feeder. i bought a 10 pound dog slef feeder and filled it with the cats dry food. they eat as they want knwoing it will never go empty and the competition to eat stopped. they dont over- eat and they equally have time at the dish. plus we give them a scoop of soft food each night - for nutrition reasons. it has worked nicely.

Sounds like they need more food. If they are out running around, they are burning more calories. Try giving them more food. I have 3 cats and I leave out dry food all the time. They all eat a normal amount and quit when full, although one of the 3 is quite large--I think he is genetically predisoposed to being a big cat. He weighs about 16 pounds and has very long legs. The other 2 weigh 5 pounds and about 8 pounds.

Maybe they need stronger worming tablets. The tablets only clear out the worms that are present at that time, cats can go out next day and eat a bird or mouse and get more worms.Kittens need to be fed quite often not just twice a day , try giving them enough on their dish so that they leave some that way you'll know they are full up.

I think your vet would be the best person to answer that. Happens mostly to humans. I have a friend like that.
