It's sixteen hours from Los Angeles to Taiwan, so that should get you some sense of range.
Passports? Maybe a week.

You are going to want to get your passport right away. You need to get passport photos (I got mine at Walgreen's). Then bring all your stuff to the post office. I forget exactly what you need. I think it takes 6-8 weeks to process, although I think I got my passport earlier than that. There is a big kick for passport now so that time might be longer. For an additional fee (pushing $100 if I remember correctly) you can get the passport rushed to you in a few weeks, but what a waste of money. Go now and get it so you know you'll have it.

As far as flight time. It depends on where you are coming from and where you have layovers in. Your itinerary should tell you. If you don't have tickets go to a travel site and just put in the locations. It will give you some tickets to choose from and give you an idea of how much time it will take. Germany was an 8 hour flight so you're probably looking at around 12 between 2 flights.
