You have to remember that we live in a fast food type culture. People want things now and they want it with little effort. The same goes with their religion. It is much easier to accept teachings from someone that dazzles them with witty sermons, than to take the time and effort to make sure their beliefs are what God wants from us. Jesus himself astounded the crowds with his message ( Matthew 7; 28, 29) but many did not bother to wait around for his explanation of the parables. He explained to his diciples why he did this at Matthew chap 13. Most people just think all they have to do is beleive and they will be saved and this has resulted in little more than them attending church twice a week, if they go at all.

Several reasons. One is our social nature. Humans want to be part of the group. If being part of the group requires believing what the group believes then that's a price many are willing to pay. Secondly is that people tend to fall prey very easily to an appeal to authority. If someone is presented as an authority on something, people will often believe what ever it is they say. You see this all the time in advertising, and if your really look at it, the Church is just an enormous marketing engine. The third is that people are naturally lazy. We don't want to do unnecessary work. If someone tells us something in a way that makes it seem reasonable that's usually the last thought we will give it.

People are generally lazy. It is easier to be spoon feed religion than to actually investigate and take seriously enough to check things out for themselves.
It is also a type of brain washing. Humans have a deep need to belong to a group. You can belong to their group if you believe the way they do. Why question anything if you get to be told you are right over and over if you believe what they tell you?
This stuff has been going on for thousands of years and will likely continue for the next thousand years. People simply don't care about the truth, as long as they are comforted by lies.

I am from Indiana, When I go to church I always take notes, & write down verses that was preached, & I do follow them while they are preaching, If my Bible is ever left home it would be by accident, I take my bible with me all the time to church to read along with the Pastor. I have been going to the same assembly since 1974 & all the yrs. I follow my pastor ministry, I honestly can say, I have never found him wrong yet. Yes I know I will get Thumbs down on this.

I agree, I think in order to understand your religion properly you need to question it, thats the only way you can learn and understand what its about.
The few Christians I know who have done this are so much more in touch with their religion (and their God I suppose) than the ones that just preach without true understanding.... sorry to use Christians as an example but the only other choice I had was Atheists and they always question their beliefs, thats what science is about!!!!

Misunderstanding, deliberately or under conditioned mind, the spiritlessness of religions/churches other than their own; not choosing repectful words while referring to 'others' in contrast with 'us'. Self centered self-loving priests for whom the satiation of their self outrides all other considerations. The Asker is correct in his understanding and observations. Welldone.

It sounds like these people are religious fundamentalists. No matter what religion, fundamentalists are a danger to society. If they don't question, they don't think.

It's called being totally immersed in dogma-it's a terrible affliction and the sufferers don't even know they're delusional.
