I live with my sister who has MS. There are days she's fine and days that she would pick a fight with me over stupid things (example over her jacket that was left in the closet). I want to know if she starts the fight because she has the disease.

There are several things which can cause MS patients to have mood swings. Those would include things like: the disease itself, and medications taken for the disease.

The disease can absolutely affect emotion and can cause depression, anxiety, attention deficit, and mood swings. Secondarily, the person may be grieving for losses related to the disease, so it can be a secondary symptom as well.

If your sister is on one of the CRAB drugs (Copaxone, Rebif, Avonex, and Betaseron), those too have also been known to cause mood swings as well as general anxiety. I take Copaxone and I also take Wellbutrin XL because it fixes my attention and stabilizes my mood as well.

Try not to be angry with your sister, but also try to talk to her about what's going on. It's important that she recognize what she is doing, and work towards normalizing those symptoms, both with counseling and potentially medication. Seeing a good psychiatrist along with a neurologist doesn't mean you're crazy; it just means that you're responsible, taking positive steps to take control of your disease, not let your disease control you.

MS triggers all sorts of things.... inappropriate emotional responses being only one thing. Remeber what the disease is -- it is a neurological one. Google it, or check WebMD.
