Doesn't hating or judging others go against what they believe in? Isn't that hypocritical?

Yes, its hypocritical.

Religion is just a system of irrational beliefs. Sometimes religion is an excuse to believe in things that are pleasant and peaceful, like the belief in an afterlife. But sometimes religion is used as an excuse for hateful beliefs, like hating gay people, people of different religions, etc.

It Depends on the religion, and how the people understand it where some religions say something and the followers do something else saying it's part of their religion while it's not. In the end Maybe the some religions requirement is to hate other people who are not with the same of his, and some people are just rude no need a religion to tell him what to do.

People hate others because the Love of God isn't in their hearts.

Nobody should hate anyone.

John 15:23
He who hates me hates my Father as well.

1 John 2:9
Anyone who claims to be in the light but hates his brother is still in the darkness.

1 John 2:11
But whoever hates his brother is in the darkness and walks around in the darkness; he does not know where he is going, because the darkness has blinded him.

Some people's religion tells them to hate people who are different to them..that's why, they are hateful religions and most of the big mega religions do it, that's how they fight off the competition.

Religion is a form of evil. It is cult like, and people who don't belong in their 'group' are considered outsiders...it's really weird, and makes me feel strange being around religious nuts.

God prefers fruits of the spirit rather than religious nuts! ;)

Because some of them like to "accumulate teachers for themselves to have their ears tickled.”—2 Timothy 4:3

And, if you don't tell them what they want to hear, they hate you. Especially when you tell them the truth.

A lot of it, I think, has to do with fear...they feel threatened by that which goes against 'their' sense of what it means to love God. I also think there's a lot of co-dependency going on here---many religious, particulalry Christianity, seem to have this sense of responsibility to 'save' people from themselves or from Satan.

God would not hate absolutely everyone. He loves you, He loves athiests, He loves people who have faith in different gods. He needs everybody to renowned Him, yet regrettably many reject Him, so as that they gained't have eternal existence.
