Hi
I probably read all the internet forums (i.e dpreview . . .) and i learn a lot about these two cameras, but i dont really know how effective will be the Image Stablizer ? and about the noise from the higher MP and the CCD Sensor , til this time i prefer A640, i like the rotating LCD and the rate of the shots in a second .
the next thing im thinking of is the optical zoom , that in 640 is 4x and in 710 is 6x .

im newbie but im studing books to take professional photos, i know that these are not professional (i have one old CANON AE-1 professional) but for case of studing and taking lots of photos i wanted a camera that has MANUAL features and good quality .

ill use it for pro photos and family or outdoor photos .

please help me ASAP ;)
thanks a lot :D

Here's the specs, side by side:

A review for the 640: http://www.steves-digicams.com/2006_reviews/a640_pg7.html
And for the 710: http://www.steves-digicams.com/2006_reviews/a710_pg5.html
They cost the exact same, and as far as I can tell they have the same important controls and the same image quality (incl. low light). They are also both too big to get extra points for fitting in your shirt pocket. And with both, the zoom starts at 35mm - a bit more would be nice, but again: no bonus points for either model.
The differences are that with the 640 you get 3 extra mega-pixels and a swivel screen vs. more tele-zoom and IS with the 710.
The swivel screen is nice but the extra megapixels are useless - the lens will become the bottleneck for resolution: you need professional quality glass to resolve 10 MP.
On the 710, the ability to zoom in closer, together with IS is very nice. You might miss image stabilization on the A640 at maximum zoom, but the A710 without IS would be terrible.
For me, the swivel screen is more useful than the extra zoom. I would get the A640. (They both look like very fun cameras.)
Oh, please note that the manual features of these cameras are not enough to get 'professional' results. For that, you really do need a (digital) SLR (faster response, bigger viewfinder, more control over depth of field, the ability to use the right lens for the job, better in low light, ...)

in my view a710 is is better... because it has 6 x optical zooming with IS

and IS is important when you are using low Shutter Speed...
but the problem in this camera is . due to two AA battery consumption its clicking time with you fire the flash is more...

if you are not using flash then no problem..

but want i find is....... A 710 IS is more demanding also..
im working for canon company as a promotor in hypermarket..

and i think i sold so many pieces.. of a710 is and no complains.. about quality of the picture or something..

anyway ..... megapixel is not very very important thing if you can't differentiate b/w pictures........... 2nd swivel LCD is useful but only in few situation.. and ask the SLR users... why they don't 've Swivel LCD..
because. main thing is ur result and ur features..

in my view.. A710 IS is good camera in this price range........ and it can help you to learn the tricks of pictures.. as well as use of Shutter and aperture.. coz its very Important
cya....... i hope it will help you to decide

initially, did you and your chum take a image of the comparable difficulty on the comparable time? have been each and every of your cameras set on the comparable placing, for the suited atmosphere? possibly his skills are slightly greater proper than yours? P.S. i choose the Canon playstation A640.
