I just spoke with this resident alien and he is in the process of being processed for formal removal from the US. He was picked up at a local jail for public intoxication and when immigration did their daily jail check, they ran into him. Public intoxication is not a removable offense but as standard operating procedure they ran a criminal history on him and discovered that he has a conviction for a drug offense back in 2000. This resident alien has been a resident of the US for over 20 years and has equity in the US in the form of property and family members. He is complaining that he already paid his price to society for his drug conviction and NOW why is the immigration deporting him? Do you feel sorry for him? I sure as heck don't!

I told him that the only was to avoid deportation was to ask the Governor of Texas or the President of the US for a pardon. He wanted to know how to go about getting a pardon and I told him to query it on Yahoo!

No I wouldn't. With the info you provided, certain forms of discretionary relief apply.

No you shouldn't.
20 years is more than enough to apply for citizenship. It's his fault for being so lazy.

iamct01 - very good! There 'should' be some cases that truly deserve our understanding, and consideration, if nothing else. In this case, perhaps our government could possibly offer this young lady citizenship, having her go through the formal testing, pledging, etc. NOT amnesty, so to speak, as she will need to somehow prove herself, if she hasn't already.

With the question at hand, if the gentleman had paid back his debt to society, how had he paid it back. Why hadn't the authorities done something about his being here illegally in the first place, and why now. Why hadn't he himself done something to become legalized, or a citizen of this country. What will this mean for his family, will they too have to leave, those who weren't Born here, and will our government follow through on this.
I feel sorry for him, and the others. The law still remains however, sorry. Deportation.

I wonder when we can stop thinking of ourselves as countries, and begin to realize we're from the same earth. Seems the world is getting smaller each day, and our tempers/greed greater.

Send his butt back to where he came from. He's here for 20 years, doesn't apply for citizenship, breaks our laws, and feels he's paid his debt. I DON'T THINK SO. He should forfeit his property, and have his butt deported immediately. This should have happened upon his drug conviction in 2000. I have no sympathy for this jerk. He got to spend 20 years here and now it's time to go. Good Riddance.

Yah, i don't think it would hurt to feel sorry for him, but he and all the Mexicans in Mexico should understand that our country can't function if there are too many aliens, though, i don't think that will ever happen because most Mexicans are desperate to get into this country and will do anything to do so

tell him to contact the news media. it is a shame they are here for so long, and get caught. he should of done something a long time ago to be legal. 20 years is a long time. when Americans get busted for drugs they go to jail. we can't send them to another country because they are Americans. some people will say anything to justify their self's for anything they do wrong.
