My grandmother, may she rest in peace, made the most delicious cranberry sauce and, when we asked how she did it, she said read the bag of cranberries. Mine came out like hers and everyone loves them. The bag of the Ocean Spray cranberries has a couple good recipes that are SIMPLE.
Plus you can make them the day before.

Use either fresh or frozen cranberries. This recipe will make approx. 3 cups
1 lb Fresh or Frozen Cranberries
1 cup Water
1 cup Orange juice
2 cup Granulated Sugar
2 oz Cornstarch mixed with 2 oz water
Bring cranberries, water and orange juice to a medium boil
Cook until cranberries are soft and have burst open
Add sugar and cornstarch/water mixture and cook until thick
Keep stirring until thick and cornstarch flavor is gone
(Cornstarch has a very fine gritty texture)
Let cool overnight and serve
Note:
If it is not sweet enough, Add sugar before you cool it down and continue to cook it until the sugar is dissolved.

1 1/2 cups orange marmalade
2/3 cup orange juice
1 cinnamon stick, broken in half
1 12-ounce bag cranberries
1/3 cup finely chopped fresh Italian parsley
Freshly ground black pepper
Combine first 3 ingredients in medium saucepan. Stir over medium-high heat until mixture comes to boil. Mix in cranberries; return to boil. Reduce heat to medium; simmer until berries burst and sauce thickens slightly, stirring occasionally, about 5 minutes. Transfer sauce to medium bowl; cool completely. Mix in parsley; season with pepper. (Can be made 3 days ahead. Cover and chill.)

I have made it from scratch its a matter of berries, water and sugar boiled until its mushy. Trust me its easier and it tastes exactly the same to open a can.. just open it and nuke it in the microwave a minute or 2.. my guy loves cranberries and there was no difference in taste or consistency. But don't buy the one that is jellied buy the whole berry can there is a difference there..

If not from a sauce, I've used frozen cranberries. A bit tart, so I add sugar...My family likes this much better.
