I have 5 tattoos and none of them have ever done this. This one is now pretty much healed but it seems to have a few bumps underneath it that itch like crazy. Everything used on my tattoo is sterile and i've been using A & D like i'm supposed to.
Can someone tell me what is wrong with my tattoo and how to make it stop itching so bad?

it itches worse than what a normal tattoo would itch...i've not been scratching it, but its so bad it wakes me up at night. I think it might be an allergic reaction but i'm not sure.

i've had my tattoo for about a week. the rest of it is healed except a few spots. it's on my wrist. i've been using lubriderm lotion after i stopped the a&d. it looks as if it has mosquito bites or a rash of that nature underneath a few spots on the tatt, which is where its itching.

skin is sensitive.. even though you have tats they are not in the same spot.. what might be happening is, you might have dirt or dust that was healing in your tattoo.. it will push its way out... dont scratch it though... take a hot towel and put it over the tattoo.. that should help with the itch and loosen up any impurity's that may be in you skin.. if this dosent work by a week ... go to your doctor.. you also my be allergic to the ink... diff ink diff ingredients.. a lot of people have a hard time with red...
good luck

Since you have 5 tattoo's I imagine you would know the difference between a normal "healing" itch and something else. You didn't say how long this has been a problem. Keep it moisturized as long as possible. You are only supposed to use the A&D for around three or four days. Then switch to a non scented lotion. Keep uncovered. You don't metion the part of the body that tatooed. This can also be a factor in healing. If all else fails call the tatoo parlor you went to.l

It may be the type of ink they used on you. Many people don't know that there are metals inside the inks and it is mixed differently by each brand. If the ink wasn't shaken well enough then in a certain location on your body there could have been an excess inked into you. Go back to the artist to find out what brand they used on you and the next time you get one be sure to ask them also so you'll know if it's the same.
The tip of my dolphin's nose has this issue. To lessen the itch apply daily Lubriderm unscented lotion. It works - I know from my own.

I have Phil Ochs tattooed on my arm (folk singer) I also have "Never Die" and a rose tattooed across my toes, with a tigerbat above the toes on my left foot for Tiger Army. I see me getting a couple more musician tattoos. I have an Ochs lyric tattoed across the back of my neck (Sacred are the scars) and an Op Ivy lyric across the insides of both arms (It's beautiful I would say... I wouldn't have it any other way.) I'm thinking about a hot-rod culture tat, skulls and roses and a banner, gotta pick the lyric to go in the banner though. As it stands today, I'd probably choose "In death as in life, I will arise" or "My conscience carries the weight of blood."

Another reason may be that because your wrist experiences more motion than some other major tattoo regions that it has to heal differently than other places on your body.
My best friend has a tattoo on his wrist, and though he and I got tattoos on the same day, his took probably a week longer to completely heal than mine did, and mine is on my bicep, so that may have something to do with it.

where is the tattoo? i have found that when i get my foot tattooed it itches much more than normal and for a longer period of time. and there are spots that take a little longer to heal they make bumpy little scabs. maybe because of the thinner skin? not sure. how long has it been since you got your tattoo? good luck!

Insted of using A&D use just an unsented lotion.I've had this happen to me several times and useally chaning to a unsented lotion helped. If it itches really bad pop it lightly to relive the itch without scraching. What ever you do don't use any itch stopper-this may pull pigment out of your tattoo.Good LUCK!

I use either Tattoo goo or vitamin E oil.
If it is as bad as you describe you might want to consult your dermatologist to determine if you are having a reaction.

Itching is a sign of healing taking place. If you are not allergic to any of the inks used it should disappear shortly. Meanwhile, you could use calamine lotion to ease the itch.

what you can do is to (not itch it) because it makes it worse and just don't touch it at all and it might take up to {3 days } to recover !!
so mean while don't think about it and just do some thing you injoy!! if you can't help itching it just itch around your tattoo don't itch your actuall tattoo!!
