2 million residents of NYC are foreign born. How can one city be so successful in assimilating immigrants?

Unlike the other claims that people are making about other places in America, this city's social services, hospitals and schools are not collapsing under the weight of undocumented people. Yet a significant portion of those 2 million foreign born residents are in fact "illegal" with regard to immigration status. Interestingly, when NYC was depopulating in the 70's it was crime-ridden & broke--now with population gains & this is only because of immigration, it is flourishing & voted as the safest large city in the nation by the FBI. If undocumented people supposedly bring such bad things, how come that's not happening in New York City with all its undocumented?

I dont see how you could be able to get the figures for just how many illegals there are in the city but, if my memory serves me right there is NOT a huge amount of assimilation regarding where you live........certain areas are full of a certain race etc etc but thats an aside the main reason I feel that New York is as it is today is that the Mayor began that tough on crime, sorry cant recall what it was called but boy did it sort the streets out Zero Tolerance leaps to mind but it might be something else, being safe is NOT the same as the infrastructures falling apart due to the volume of people using the hospitals / schools etc etc after livng there some years ago I know for sure I would not really wish to return, great place, even greater people [on the whole] but go again, I dont think so.

But I would not call New York City the safest place to live. I don't know why others would. They do have many problems. I love to visit NYC (I favor Chicago more) -but I wouldn't pick it as the safest -not at all.

I am sure you mean well and I understand that it is not the non citizens or foreigners or people of different cultures that are all the problems but this example doesn't mean anything to me. I have no problem with different Nationalities--America consist of many. And NYC still has many racial problems. They have not conquered that. I do have a problem with people who don't obey the law. The crime stopped because Guiliana was elected and got tough with criminals. Trying to equate illegals with a drop in crime is the funniest fantasy I have ever read here. In socal 65% of violent felons injail are illegals from MEXICO. Please spare us the whitewash of criminals coming here. Just being illegal is a crime, why should I not believe after seeing what they cause to happen. Illeagals started flooding my area about 5 years ago, now child sex attacks have risen 500%. Is that the job those hard working people came here to do? Don't get me started on the lady that smothered her 3 kids cause the husband had a girlfriend.

Yes, but most of the city is a cesspool. Where the illegals live are ignored by FBI because it is impossible to separate what is normal from what is abnormal in a tenament TJ city. The truth hurts.

The problem is not about legal immigrants its about the damage being done to our southwestern border states by
illegal aliens.
