Well, you better download the clip in Dv-video format, then you can easily convert it to the infinite video formats with software such as Adobe Premiere, Pinnacle Studio and so on.
You get a very good quality and also a small file(not big-sized) with .mpeg2(DVD quality), .mpeg 1;then you have the .AVI file, which is very great both is size and quality, nothing that you can't get with an .mpeg file, in the end there is the Divx format, but this is pretty...particular...well... Best quality and lowest file-size, but not all the devices can play it, for example an old DvD player doesn't accept it and many video editing software as well.

If your capture software will allow it, DV-video is the best quality, either DV-video or DV-video-ms to the hard drive and then after you make your movie it depends again on your software.
What I'm discussing is firewire capture with an ieee1394 card.
If you're going to DVD, Nero makes mpeg-4. If you're going back to DV tape, you're glad you captured to the hard drive in DV-video.
For the best file format between movie softwares you have to find an .avi with the right codec that the two editing packages will recognize and exchange.
If you have a special pci video capture card, you must use the codec that card uses for the software.
It takes experimentation. You can spend a lot of time trying to do a whole movie at once.
