Young NASCAR fan, favorites being DEI and Gibbs, have my own reasons for disliking Hendrick drivers, but am curious as to the stories behind Hendrick being a "crook". Opinions welcome but facts appreciated.

Not HMS, but Rick Hendrick himself.

Rick Hendrick being referred to as a crook has to do with trouble he got into with his car dealerships than his owning Nascar teams. He owns numerous car dealerships.

"In 1997, Hendrick pleaded guilty to bribery and mail fraud. In the 1980s, Honda automobiles were in high demand, and Honda executives allegedly solicited bribes from dealers for larger product disbursements. Hendrick admitted to giving hundreds of thousands of dollars, BMW automobiles, and houses to American Honda Motor Company executives. Hendrick was sentenced in December of that year to a $250,000 fine, 12 months home confinement (instead of prison, due to his leukemia), three years probation, and to have no involvement with Hendrick Automotive Group or Hendrick Motorsports during his year of confinement. In December of 2000, Hendrick received a full pardon from President Clinton"

Yes, Hendrick Motorsports have been caught for cheating on several occassions, but really, who hasn't. Yes, Hendrick Motorsports still cheats, who doesn't? It comes down to who can cheat and not get caught. It's part of the sport. I feel Hendrick, though constantly knocked on, is one of the best. Speed tv had the discussion this morning as Mears is moving to Hendricks and it is widely agreed (among those involved in the sport, not fans) that Hendricks is at the top of the league. But each owner has their different strengths. Pick a driver and pull for whoever you want....as long as you pull for someone!!!

Here's what they have learned, don't be afraid to test the "gray areas" of the rule book. Blatant cheating will get you in a heap of trouble but most of the things that HMS has gotten in trouble for are not clearly laid out in the rules. When Chad gets to problem solving outside of the box it makes NASCAR look stupid. They don't like that so they react with fines and suspensions. The one thing about Rick is he will back you 100% as long as you continually try to improve things, regardless of the consequences. Even when everything is going good at HMS, they don't sit back and take a break. They look for every loophole and advantage they can find whether that's with the cars or their testing. Rick is the driving force behind it all but he has assembled some of the finest racing minds and drivers that have ever been together on the same team. They and JGR seemed to have a distinct advantage in the earlier COT races but I don't think you will see either team dominate as much as they did last year. edit: mattywin, HMS did NOT use the new Chevy motor last year, that was RCR and DEI that made the early switch. They are using it this year though.

what a bunch of arrogant, "I am going to speak for everyone" answers quote usually people dislike the Roush guys, lmao, Mark Martin is one of the most popular drivers and I am a big roush driver fan. Look at all the cheating going on at Hendrick Motorsports and for a fact, I have heard the loudest boos at TMS for noneother than Jerk Gordan, oh I meant Jeff!!!!!!!!! Anyway, yes Rick is a crook away from the track as mentioned in an earlier answer.

Hendrick used his auto dealership to launder money,(hes a convicted felon), and I believe it was a HONDA dealership that was used,,,his teams have been noted for cheating

If you can remember at Daytona 2006 when Chad was caught cheating and alot of people argued that the car should of been taken away. Then last year Las vegas when Jimmie and Kyle's shocks were not illegal but they did have an advantage. No penalty was inforced but alot of people were saying the shocks were illegal and I guess people were mad that no one was penalized. So where I was trying to go with this is that People think HMS can get away with alot of things. I guess another reason would be how well they perform . But uh.....I guess people have their reasons.
