I am going to take care of my neighbors 10 year old dog. He wants me to feed the dog and than right afterwards take him for a walk.
I think it is bad to walk a dog right after it ate, what do you think?

No, the dog is not on a schedule, that's why I am asking. Hellooooo!

Well, maybe not right away. But you certainly don't have to wait very long. Just a short walk would do the trick I would think! If it's a big dog, wait a little longer. Maybe fifteen minutes after the dog eats.

It sounds like the dog is on a schedule, if this is what the dog is used to, then do as your neighbor asked (it's his dog!). Besides, if the dog just ate, it's ready to go to the bathroom - my dog does! Just walk slowly if you're concerned for the dog's physical ability to walk well.

I'm unsure as to why you think it is bad to walk a dog right after it ate, because all my dogs seem to start bouncing around, romping and playing usually within minutes after they finish eating. Apparently your neighbors have been doing the same regimen with their dog and he's doing fine. Try to stick with the known routine. The dog will be fine.

It is fine to walk a dog after it eats.
Do not let them romp around really hard and run and play hard after eating as if they have eaten a large meal and play to hard it can cause bloat or torsion of the stomach.
A short slow walk is fine after eating. On an elderly dog you are not going to go out and run them anyway. So it should be fine.
If you are worried walk him first then feed him and then let him out to go potty.

My dog will always let me know when he needs to be let out. You should ask your neighbor how his dog behaves when he needs to be let out. Also ask the neighbor if the pet has any type of bladder or other type of condition you should be aware of. Maybe the dog drinks alot of water when it eats. It may need to be walked right away if that is the case.

You're right, you should wait at least an hour before taking him for a walk - especially if he eats a big meal.
